Its human waste. Disturbing and disgusting. 💩🚽 Milorganite is a brand of biosolids fertilizer produced by treating sewage sludge by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. The term is a portmanteau of the term Milwaukee Organic Nitrogen. The sewer system of the District collects municipal wastewater from the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

Also, Milorganite is very expensive. In SE Wisconsin, a bag is around $10, but only cover 2,500 sf. So it may seem cheap, but the coverage is far less.

Milorganite has PFOAs in it. I’ve used it for 10 years at least in my whole yard and garden. Now I’m very concerned. I’m not going to buy any more bio solid any more. They all have the chemical in it. It’s a forever toxin. Please Google this yourself and you’ll see.

Keep in mind that such products may, I say again, MAY be high in heavy metals. Heavy metals are toxic.

Please let me know if you know where can one buy Zoysia trinity grass by seed? And check Johnson Su bioreactor presentation video by him, David Johnson. It will biologically solve all your soil problems with no chemicals. Spoiler: a leaf made mix broken down in a month will help you in the meantime you wait for the good stuff.

Please, remember about Zoysia grass

Hey Ryan - Same thing has happened to me. Soil test showing high "P" levels and low "K" levels. I have pretty much stopped using Milorganite on my lawn, because of the high "P" levels and lack of "K" I guess what I wanted to mention, if some one was still interested in using Milorganite, they could also add a liquid potash product "K" . I did purchase come my self, but it was very expensive. I made some changes this year to my soil/fertilizer program, did a soil test in spring, and another soil test this fall because I wanted to see if the changes I made are working, something else you should be aware of, is your adjustments to your soil amendments may take a year or two to actually show up, so dont be disappointed if you do a soil test and make adjustments and theres no change or little change the following year, stick with it, follow your lawn fertilizer program and the adjustments will pay off! Great video Ryan. I have a few videos on my channel on this same subject, and of course a subscriber to your channel.

Dithiopyr Dimension at home depo is 19-0-7. I also added super phosphate which is 0-18-0. After 2 days of rain my minnesota lawn is green. I also added 16 bags of manure/compost and 3 bags of fine mulch. Dont forget to rake thatch and I also used a garden tool that pokes holes but not very deep. It was just enough to penetrate the soil surface

Thank you for this video. I just need some help without doing a soil test, I live in El Paso, TX.......desert city..lol. So just you know I had nothing but rocks in my backyard, previous owner never had grass nor trees. Nothing by small yellow rocks, cement, and bricks in the back. All of that was removed and was left nothing but dirt, then got some landscapers to install some Bermuda SOD on March 16, 2022......it was fantastic at the beginning but now after 4th week I noticed a change. Started getting all patchy ( I do water 3 times a week in the mornings for about 35-40 min). Thought I had some fungus so i applied some Scotts diseaseX 2 weeks and just this past weekend I applied some Revive. Thought maybe my dirt (soil is not holding up the water), hopefully that helps improve the soil. So now next week, I plan on fertilizing the lawn then adding some top soil to help it improve. Just not sure what type of fertilizer should I start of with. I live in the corner of West Texas. Can you help me out?

Cliff notes, if you only use Milo as your nitrogen and phosphorous source, use a secondary supplement with potash aka potassium. Easy.

Hi Ryan, I live in NW Iowa and we have clay soil along the Missouri River and Loess Hills. My neighbor uses Milo and has great results but he waters more than I do. Our yards are about 5-6 years old and he mows his much shorter. Is it possible he just has better drought resistant grass? I quit using Milo because I had too much Phosphorous so have been Phos free for 2 years. Think I'll try Milo again. Also considering Ironite. What is your opinion of it? We are in 2 year drought here in the Sioux City area.

I use milorganite in spring. My theory on that is the grass is going to grow loke crazy without synthetic fert on its own and in the fall i use synthetic weed and feed to carry me thru the fall/winter and gives me macros that i dont get from the milorganite. And i do a 2nd round of milorganite in June or july since synthetics are not good to use in high heat times of the year. To sum it up 2 rounds of milorganite and 1 round of synthetic to give me my micros. If i use synthetic all year i would be cutting grass every 2/3 days in spring and early summer and taking the risk of burning when its hot outside and the lawn is already stressed

I use Milorganite for my Memorial Day and Independence Day lawn feedings and use synthetics for my early and late season feedings. I haven’t used any soil test kits but I do use other biological (humic acid and liquid kelp) and iron liquids.

I started using Milorganite late last year and was concerned about the total lack of Potassium. I've manually been mixing in with the Milorganite a product called Sulfate of Potash which is extremely high in Potassium. I mix in enough so that my end NPK ratio is basically 6-4-2. Is this an acceptable/safe way (for the lawn)(yes, I wear rubber gloves and an air mask when mixing) to correct for the lack of Potassium? Is the percentage of Potassium too high or too low?

I work for a lawn care company and we switched to milorganite as our default fertilizer outside of Dimension and Grub Control rounds 1,2 and 4) and I saw a HUGE uptick of fungus in customers yards towards late summer/early fall. Lawns were very green early on, but I cant recommend using milorganite exclusively on your yard. Sprinkle anything with potassium in at some point because milorganite has none and your lawn will lose some defense to fungus.

@mikeb1039

PH and some other parts of soil tests are not static measurements. They do fluctuate over the course of a year. Also the fertilizer you add isn't the only source of nutrients the grass has. As noted it's the micro activity in the soil that breaks down the raw materials and they are breaking down all kinds of material all year long. Including sourses of P. And then there's the potassium already plant ready in the soil. Plenty of people never fertilize.
Their grass doesn't go away.
I'm not saying you are wrong, just that there are a lot of angles you can focus on.
