I like the Lionsgate one. On previous 1080p & dvd editions there was a debate surrounding two different color timings - both Cundey approved. One ran a little hot and felt too modern and the other was that fall look. I suspect these are the two options Shout/scream pulled from opting to keep the colder tome on the blu ray. Lionsgate audio is lacking though.

I am a fan of the 35th anniversary blu-ray by Anchor Bay. I think it looks great and gives it an almost 60s color style very similar to the movie Zodiac. I was curious about the 4k and this recent Scream 4k but look's to me they are just fiddling colors around to make $$$. The box art isn't that great either. A badly photoshopped car plopped right behind myers. The art work for the shirts by Fright Rags would have been much better.

DISC 3 of the Scream Factory actually has the TV version as originally aired on NBC. The eye slits in opening murder are smaller as originally edited for network sensors and dialog has been altered as originally aired. There has never been a true televised version of Halloween on domestic home video as the extended versions on VHS/DVD although stated on the packaging as the Television or extended version is a composite edit of the original theatrical version with the additional 12 minutes. There has been only one true Home Video release of the full frame televised version with the edits and censored nudity of the first kill nudity and PJ Soles nudity and that was a Japanese Laserdisc. Again, the Shout factory 4k/b-r edition although not listed on the back of the slip DOES IN FACT include for the first time in the US the original censored broadcast version.

Idk I kinda like Lions Gate on the night scenes & Scream Factory on the Day scenes, and the night scenes are when the scary stuff happens so I might give edge to Lions Gate. I don’t have the Lions Gate but I do have the SF

I was wondering which version I had, honestly if I didn't already have the rather excellent 4k Steelbook (which I think is the Lionsgate release) I may have considered the shout factory although my preference would be the colour timing on the Lionsgate as its meant to be winter and it does a great job of looking like October, not sure I feel this film should really be popping with colour, especially looking warmer with bright green grass, looking at comparrison shots between the two, I do favour the Lionsgate release!

Purely from the side-by-side comparisons in this video, it seems the Lionsgate transfer crushes the dark tones.

I only had the 2012 blu ray release, saw this video, and went out to get both 4K options lol
The Lionsgate is definitely less saturated, while the Scream Factory has much brighter colors.
Both look great, much better than my original blu ray for sure, but they’re 2 different moods, and I can see either disc being someone’s favorite.

I never liked the lions gate version. It was to dark. The classroom scene with Laurie looks terrible. The shout factory version in Dolby vision is night and day better. Worth the upgrade .

Glad I got the SF 4K release of the first film. I found it to be a worthy upgrade, especially considering my copy of the box set from years back got destroyed in a flood a few years ago. Definitely plan on getting the rest of the 4K versions of the films gradually again.

Try doing a comparison video for the ultimate 35th anniversary of Halloween on bluray cause I heard by the Dp he said that the 35th anniversary edition is the most close to how the original colors was intended to look like. If u watch the interview about the 35th anniversary Blu ray the dp Dean cundey states that the 35th anniversary version is the best representation of how the movie was intended to look like , from all the other many different transfers that was ever put out for the original Halloween, and I do own a copy of the 35th anniversary bluray and I must say it's a solid transfer n good for my opinion plus I like the cover art to the 35th anniversary version, please do a video of that edition to compare it to that 4k version which I believe came out in 2018 , from what I heard the 35th anniversary is better than the 4k 2018 edition transfer, so I'm also now curious how the new Scream factory edition of Halloween 1978 differs or compares to the definitive 35th anniversary edition, cause like I stated the 35th anniversary edition is praised by the actual DP and the people who worked on the film. That the 35th anniversary is very much close to how all the colors and screen lighting was intended to look like for the films release, what are your thoughts on this, cause of the original Halloween getting so far in counting like 3 or 4 re-released editions in recent years , there are too many to really keep up with or choose as being the best edition so far, it's crazy that Halloween 78, has been thru so many transfers throughout the years, and that if u were to overlook at a collection of the many versions available, some factors are a little disappointing, mostly cause I've noticed on some of the releases all they do is recycle the same old material that most of us have already seen or own on another edition previously released already the only small changes along the way are just the screen transfer improvement minor sound difference, a recycled commentary, maybe they'd throw 1 new featurette or a new interview in, but , after awhile it's frustrating to keep buying a new version ,especially when one edition is released not to long after a previous version has been released, atleast wait a couple years or 5 or more years till a next newer release is set, and make it worth considering a must have why I should really spend the money all over again for this particular copy, like some newer behind the scenes or bonus new documentary features that have never been released widely to the public ever or something along those lines of why this version is a must own to my Halloween collection, sell it and make it tempting for us buyers and fans who own this movie and awhile bunch of other versions of the same film.sorry bout the rant but to be perfectly honest after awhile it begins to obviously look like a cash grab to us fans who love the film

The fact that I'm completely broke made the decision for me 😂... The lionsgate edition will do.... Bummed out that there ain't the extended cut on it but it's still a more authentic and more perfectly acceptable release

I respectfully disagree about the Atmos track not being much different than on the previous release, I was personally blown away by how much they mixed into the rear and height channels. The score stood out far more than I've ever heard it before and the daytime scenes included so many small details like birds chirping, leaves and wind blowing through trees etc. All in all I'm amazed by the Scream Factory release both visually and auraly.

Why didn't they Include the WHOLE TV cut in HD? The TV inserts need an HD master! It's no different than the TV cut of Halloween 2 1981.

I'm glad I got this release. I bought the Lionsgate version a while back and the color timing threw me off. The duller color pallete was odd for me. The Scream Factory release's colors are the way I remember the movie always being, just with better resolution.

Original mono-audio for the win! I love when 4K releases for older films contain theatrical audio. 7.1 and Atmos seem a bit overkill for some of these IMO.

Great video, thank you. I've been wondering which version to get as its about time I added a 4K Disc of Halloween to the collection, I've owned it on every other format over the last 40 years Lol. I'm sold on the Scream Factory Version here (The clear shot of Nancy Loomis sold me....) and if I want to see the Lionsgate version, I'll pop on my 1980's mirrored shades. I'm just trying to find out if the disc is Region free because I'll grab both this and Halloween 2, I often watch both movies back to back.
