Why Is Dark Souls 1 A Masterpiece?!

I still remember playing all these games at once for the first time. What a journey. Its kind of a sad journey but a memorable one i wont forget. It all started cause of my curiosity from the Demons souls remake trailer when the PS5 was about to release and also the Elden Ring trailer (of course me seeing rage compilations years ago sparked something as well, but in a minor way). My friends on discord kept begging me as i was a person who had a bunch of free time and loved to binge new game series that ive been buying lately , huge physical collector .

And after seeing those trailers and them asking me to try em out, i bought em all , demons souls remake , dark souls remastered , scholar, 3 , (i technically also got OG Demons souls for PS3 but haven't done that one yet) Bloodborne, Sekiro then my last step was to wait for Elden Ring to release...🤗 i started the binging couple months before it released, went through so much hell and back beating all these bosses, even did dlc afterwards.

The sad part i was talking bout this is i had this pet Black Cat , who i had as a pet for like almost over 11 years, he was older than that since we let him in as a stray when we moved here and it was really cold outside. He loved to sit with me and lie down and watch me play games constantly, he got old but he saw me go through all the main bosses from demons souls , all the dark souls games , Bloodbourne, Sekiro and most of Elden Ring....... as sad as it was , he didn't make it to the end of Eldeb Ring , almost did. Unfortunately on April 21st 2022, He passed away beside me after nearly making it to Radagon of all Places. Near that whole location in the end game part. I dedicated that whole part/series to my cat Ozzy(/mr meow ) it was an emotional journey, a journey ill never forget not only cause of experiencing this series for the first time and it becoming one of if not my close favorite of all time game series period, but for the last journey/time i got to spend with my cat, I'll miss you Ozzy 😔 ❤️ you fought to the very end , he was one of the main reasons i didn't go Hollow. RIP Warrior. Such a beautiful thing in what gaming journeys can bring you on

I remember putting 1000hrs into dark souls on Xbox when first came out ahh the nostalgia i felt replying it all these years later on pc was undescribable bliss truly magical experience total masterpiece

The style, the atmosphere, the mechanics- so, so good.
And every time I get my ass kicked I wanna try again immediatly.

basically with an limited stroy you have to walk through path which ionclude all kinds of difficulties its just fighting journey about whhat your paying not lik an stroy driven game

My first time in the painted world I got invaded and my invaded went and opened the door in the Skelton sewers for me I will remember him for the rest of my life along with our boy Solaire clapping Gwyns cheeks praise the sun

Ive come back to this video too many times to remember. This is a favorite. I watched it when it came out and im still watching it. Even 5 years ago he knew what he was doing.

I was watching all these cutscenes and played through Bloodborne, and realized that a lot of the areas, themes and characters were inspired by Berserk in a very big way.

I’d show those people who day video games can’t be art Hollow Knight. I don’t really like it, but I definitely think the art style and storytelling is very good. It’s just not my thing tho, I tried it.

Knew nothing about the souls series just walked into my local supermarket one day and just see prepare to die bought it now im a souls vet

DS1 is still the best souls game out there. And you know why ? It's because it's fair with its players. No cheap ways to make it difficult for the sake of being difficult. No smoke into the eyes for sake of being so misterious and shit. Also still the best visual style. Other games either look like some shitty cartoon or some fckn anime. A true dark fantasy.

Just finished probably my 17th playthrough of this game. It'll always be my favorite of the franchise. As much as I enjoy Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and the others, none of them seem to be able to touch Dark Souls. The world is perfectly crafted, the combat is heavy, unforgiving, and forces you to commit to every attack, and the change in atmosphere from level to level is S-tier. Dark Souls achieved the level of immersion Demon's Souls did without breaking the world up into sections. Everything is connected. Dark Souls is absolutely a masterpiece of a game.

Remember it came out when studios actually took risks and there were so many games that would be considered too risky to make these days. My first Fromsoft game was Bloodborne and I FUCKIN HATED it. Took it back a few days later. Then I found myself running through easy ass games. After getting clean gaming helped me not use bc it kept me occupied enough I didn’t think of it when I wasn’t working. So being bored wit easy games I went back to Bloodborne. I fell in love wit it as I started understanding the gameplay mechanics. Then my first Souls game was DS2. I been hooked ever since.

I finished Dark Soul and Demon Souls, but its overrated. By the way Demon Souls is a bit better. Main feature of this game is difficulty, otherwise its like 3rd person game with "tactical" melee combat, there were games like it before.. There world be much less dark, that is point for Dark Souls, but otherwise, concept except difficulty and dying and game feature were the same. From Die by the Sword, Conan Dark Age, Ashgan, Severance etc . I understand why this cult was created, but i find out it wrong. Too big bosses not feel right, if it should be about some realistic fell of to be quite weak hero.
From pure game design is nothing great, same from the technical stand point (collisions sucks), you can argue about art style which is quite good.

The vast majority of people see this game through rose coloured glasses. It’s aged like milk.

The first souls game I played was Elden ring, and then I played through every other souls game including Sekiro. Dark souls 1 is the second worst game. Demons souls is the worst.

I absolutely despise DS vague gimmicky storytelling style. From the moment that first npc told me about the two bells, I stopped caring about the lore and only stayed for the gameplay, visuals and because I felt I had to educate myself on something so culturally significant. So while I reject your premise, I'm still greatful for you explaining the good ideas behind the lore, even if the games creators themselves failed to deliver🤝

i played almost all souls game , DS 1 is definitely the best , people compare with Elden or others , honestly if the game is same grapfic and time , DS ownz them all without a doubt

After a long hard thought. Yes for the time dark souls is amazing. Top tier. But after bloodbourne, ds3, and elden ring. Not having quick attacks from start....bloodbourne

I just finished my very first playthrough a week or so ago. And to this day. Id let gwynevere ruin my FUCKING LIFE. Only covenant i joined. Hate and judge me all u want. I dont care. I want shawty to have my kids.

Imma just say it:

Dark Souls REALLY ain’t that hard, it’s just VERY firm In it’s punishments.

You get cocky, you get careless, you get impatient? You die.

Sometimes it pulls some b.s, with a trap you didn’t expect, but hey, if you learned at all, you’ll be more careful in your next go.

It’s a learning game and it falls into that pit of “well damn, now I kinda wish every fantasy RPG borrowed from this.”

Sorta like learning to play a bitch of a complex board game like 40k or Battletech, when you DO get it, you appreciate just how complex it is.

Boy, it takes me back. I heard so many times about DS, how hard it is... mostly how hard it is. And in the end I was interested. And here I am, slowly lowering my controller after beating it, tired, speachless. Dark Souls is indeed unique.

I have looked at the post and haven’t seen anything about King’s Fields. They are the ones who started it.I have played most of King’s Fields. Plus now Dark Souls.

I spoiled myself by reading online of Gwynevere’s illusion and various functions of characters depending on your actions. I robbed myself of the discovery and resent myself for destroying this magnificent story. I ruined this game for myself, my favorite game and have yet to get over this. Almost wishing someone would forgive me because I cannot find the strength to do so. No other game will match my feelings for Dark Souls 1
