I love them all but Raven from Pacific Northwest Native mythology is my favorite. He's a boundary crosser, a chaotic force that shakes up the status quo but also false assumptions and injustice. He saves the sun, moon and stars because it's what needs to be done and he is the vehicle of that necessity. Sometimes he seems ineffably deep and wise, sometimes silly and mischievous. But to be a Trickster is to be comfortable with paradox and with knowing that everything is in flux. A Trickster's perspective is often of one who is outside the system and sees its with true clarity, holding up a mirror, as you said, to us. That is a beautiful concept.

A deceiver.......there's nothing heroic about a coward and treacherous oportunisti scumbag. Their main stimuli is ENVY.....and their sense of inferioroty makes them fabricate lies to destroy their object of envy.....politicians are a very good example, of this sorry excuse of humans, ....

Diego Dela Vega is a trickster himself since he constantly pretends to be a spineless fop to keep others from realizing that he is Zorro.

Erik, aka The Phantom of the Opera can also be considered a trickster with the pranks he pulls on the managers of the theatre, using his skills as a ventriloquist to make Carlotta sound like she was croaking, or, like in the movie, switching out her throat spray that made her lose her voice onstage.

Narration, near the end of the video: "Perhaps the most famous trickster of mythology is Loki-"

Me: "THERE'S the nod to my favorite pantheon to learn about."

All in all a FABULOUS video! And yes, please! More videos on tricksters like Loki and Coyote! Thank you for the time and effor you put into these videos you do!

I would say Loki is my favorite. A facet of tricksters is a tendency to 'get around', or tease others who struggle with such. Tricksters tend to reap what they sow in that many of the challenges they face are the results of them somehow creating the problem or taking on the thing willingly. They also can fall into the Byronic hero and general antihero tropes/archetypes.

My favorite archetypal character trope in fictional stories. I've always found the stories of tricksters to be much more complex, interesting, and compelling than the boring stories of fabled heroes always ending up winning against the villain, and saving the day by overcoming difficult trials and tribulations. And them always being bound by a "moral code" where the lines of good and bad are defined makes heroes so boring to relate. Plus, such characterization for morally "good" heroes is such a narrow-minded perspective of the grander worldview where certain situations aren't as easily defined by the lens of heroes seeing things as simply "good", or "bad". Such narrative tool is cliche, as it is overdone.

If I could be reborn as any trickster, I would choose to be a daitengu. Not only would I have magical powers, but I could also fly under my own power. As for where I’d live if I was a tengu, Mt. Takao is the place I’d call home. Because it’s a tourist attraction, I’d use my powers to mess with the heads of foreign tourists that are disrespectful as a means of teaching them a lesson.

I named him Jack Renard, after both my favorite fairytale protagonist and the foxy trickster character of French folklore.
