I’ve had this happen to me. I’m of mixed race but look white. Not to mention I’ve been falsely grab by security for stealing 3 times, the last just for putting my hands in my pocket to grab my wallet.
The last one the store felt terrible, gave me a $10 voucher and fired that security.

I’m not at all defending her actions but this happens a lot with my mom specifically. When she doesn’t see it in her bag once, she checks again in a more calmer way and ends up finding it hidden under her wallet all the way inside her bag. Two times I remember her asking me where it was and she had it hanging on the car mount right in front of her and the other time she had it right in her hand as she looked at me dead in the eye and asked if I’ve seen it 😂 point I’m making is that I can understand her panic BUT blaming it on someone stealing it and just staying adamant that he stole it? Yea that’s horrible thing to do.

I once lost a passport like this... I swore I kept it in my new purse and then it was gone. I looked for it EVERYWHERE! I finally gave up and applied for a replacement passport. After few months, I am emptying the purse and felt something and thought "wait is my passport here?". I looked and I cannot see it since purse is literally empty. I then realized that there was a small opening (false opening?) such that when you open the zip, you can't see it...but the passport went inside that. I still have no idea how it went into the false opening.

I would have called the cops and asked that she be arrested after she found her phone.

The most I would do was, “omg, I can’t find my phone! Can someone call my number for me?” She couldn’t even find that phone in her purse, and she thinks this man slipped it out like the Pink Panther.
