I wanted to use linux a lot, but both kubuntu and linux mint are running my laptop fan badly. I couldn't find a proper solution in the forums.

😇 Thank you for your kind review of PMOS. We are currently using Debian (64bit Bullseye) as our flagship release since February 2022 and latterly released a 32bit version off Bullseye and for people whom prefer a non-systemd OS we have released 64 and 32bit versions of Devuan (Chimaera).

Please note we ship a minimal iso, your review does not reflect the choice of wallpaper nor the desktop themes, which are can downloaded via our extras packages through the welcome page, among other optional extras.

We dropped Ubuntu in favour of Debian for various reasons due to the pathway that both OS'es were following, we offer Snap, Flats and App images as an option to our community not as a de-facto software solution that Ubuntu seem to be pursuing.

Sadly, Mark Greaves passed away in January 2020 and the development of Peppermint stagnated, until the present team of myself, KsWoodsman, grafiksinc and linuxbookro grow out of the vacuum created by Mark's death. We have witnessed many claims and balant falsehoods concerning PMOS rebirth.

We set the following goals as we as team evolved from a fractured community post Mark's death, Debian being our preferred option, the Calamares installer, though the netinstaller was mooted but not followed through as the community deemed it not to be user-friendly. We have achieved all our objectives and goals to-date, a 64bit Debian Bullseye on the 2nd February 2022, since then a 32bit Debian for elderly hardware, ditto with Devuan 64 and 32bit releases. We have received requests other mean of delivery, such as netinstall, this will take time and the need double the current devs team to accommodate such requests and our sanity.

For those people who have past and present who have installed PMOS, by the way we do not call Peppermit 11, it is PMOS Bullseye or Chimaera. A huge thank you for continued support.

who likes xfce? a desktop env' is supposed to work, graphically - try and resize ANY window by grabbing a corner with a mouse. So much effort! Basic functionality that does not work. "oh but it's light weight and efficient".. Nope!

I use Xubuntu, but other alternative is voyagerlive.

Debian 11 Bullseye, stable or testing, with xfce is probably the most synergistic combination in the desktop space for Linux.

Manjaro is actually the best Xfce distro that I have found

Spiral Linux and Garuda Linux XFCE are honorable mentions here because of the overall functionality and ease of use.
