The Star Ocean Series | Where Sci-Fi Meets Fantasy (Complete Series Overview)

Star Ocean: The Divine Force was the first SO game I've played, and I think I liked it more than Tales Of Arise. I somehow missed Star Ocean - series completely when I was younger. Not even sure if they were released here. Anyway, enjoyed divine force and I also have the last hope remaster waiting. Thanks for the good video. It was enjoyable to watch.

TtEoT was one of the jrpg I played. I love it and TLH.

I liked the original Star Ocean better than its remakes

I recently got access to first departure r and second evolution r, so naturally I must replay every other game in the series and probably in order.

I love the last hope too. Very fond memories, my partner and I mock lymle a lot too, ‘kayyy’
After so long, running around screaming ‘Kay!’ Because her voice acting drove us insane

Recently got access to all the Star ocean games. Starting from the very beginning and attempting to replay them all in order finally.

Star ocean 3 was my first. The twist you were talking about really threw me for a loop and wondered how it would effect my view of the other games. Still it holds a special place in my heart as I remembered it still all these years since. I played this one as a kid and loved it. Now we have the second story r out and I'm thinking about picking the rest up while they are on sale. I did pick up 5, years ago, and I felt the same way. Mainly the 7 character party battles which I wanted in a jrpg for a long time, until it happened. There is just so much going on on screen at one time it's unnerving. The first departure r and last hope I can pick up right now for under $15. The Devine force is $30 and the second departure r for $50. So to finish off the collection for under $100 would be nice since I already have 3 and 5.

SO3,4 and 5 made me walk away divine force brought me back

The problem with SO2 is that it's like knocking out the world heavyweight champion in the first round of your first professional bout. There really isn't anyplace to go but down.
I will say that I'm enjoying the shit out of SO2R right now.

SO2 is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. Currently playing 6 and really enjoying it. Not a fan of the UI and small text size but it’s a solid game overall.

3 for me and then 2 looking forward to 2R

So 3 was peak SO until SO2 Remake which might fix all the issues SO 2 had.

So far yeah SO 2 Remake is looking to be the Ultimate SO and the defacto best in the franchise, unless they fuck up in some way but after the demo, I highly doubt it

Blue Sphere needs a remake/remaster! Use First Departure/Second Evolution's engine!

I think the title throws people off from what's really great about the series. Star Ocean's gift is not its sci-fi tropes, but rather how it innovated open-ended gaming in ways we take for granted with open world games now. It used aLOT of clever mechanics for depth. Before I played this series I would never have guessed that being given the power to not only shape the story and party members the way you wanted to, but almost EVERY aspect of the playing experience through the skills menu and item creation could be done in a way that kept the story intact. It takes ALOT of diligence to do that, and no other franchise in RPGs has done it like Tri-Ace has.

I just played star ocean 4 so far. I have to say i love it. I even like the creepy voice of Lymel maby because im German and not english.

I mean 2 is the top but 4 is my next favorite. It's the peak of the bate system. I really hate Star ocean 3. The story pisses me off and the lack of a world map. The magic system. So much about it I hate. I really liked star ocean 5 and I know I'm in a huge minority. I find it a great time waster. Mindless quest with great music and a fun battle system. It is mediocre and hell but I enjoyed it a ton. Divide force kinda sucks because the battle system is garbage and the graphics are really poor for this generation

Thank you for this video. I just love this series so much. And I've only played 2 (multiple times as a kid), then more recently 1 on switch and then 6. I loved those too. Looking forward so much to SO2R and own SO3 and will eventually get to it.

Till the end of time is an ABORTION! The first entry in the series that started the whole glaringly loud music where you can’t hear character dialogue. Not to mention the whole the game is a game within a game.

SO3 in my team always! One of my favourite series, love it so much, and can't wait for the remake of SO2.

Divine Force is extremely bad. Especially on PS4. Garbage story, characters, and everything else. Do yourself a favor and avoid it at all costs. Great series, hopefully it comes back again, but Divine Force is simply not it, yo. :c

My favorite Star Ocean game is Last Hope.

I liked it for its story, gameplay, the characters (except for the anime purple haired girl), and the giant pink rabbits.

That and it was a game that I watched my brother played once.

Star Ocean the First Departure for the Switch was a little dull, but maybe it was my lack of checking out most of series or my attention span talking… 🤔

Idk, but hopefully expanding my horizons on the Star Oceans series by checking out the others, will help me find a new perspective and possibly a new favorite to the series. 🤔

I LOVED The Divine Force, I get a lot of the complaints, but I don't think is as bad as some people what to make it out to be.
The combat is fun, the story is generic but serves it's purpose, the cast is nothing to write home about but is fun and likable, there's a lot of backtracking which it even annoyed me (and I love walking around in games), and the voice acting wasn't that great in some places. But overall, I think is a great game that sounds and plays great, and also has some really good art direction. Yeah, the characters look like dolls but also do anime characters and nobody complains.

I feel like a lot of the hate it got is because of the previous entries, people always want something new but that it's the same as the old, they want something fresh but that feels like the old, they want the best game ever or it's not good enough.

I think SO6 is second best after SO2. SO3 is still good, but Divine Force is way more polished.

Between Tales and Star Ocean..for me Tales wins for sure but I really liked SO 1, 2 and Last Hope as well as Til the End of Time. I will be playing Devine Force when I get a chance too.

The one with Faith and his sister with the gun, my favorite. Last hope was corny, and the combat was down grade only 2 Button for skill moves smh

I've never played Second Story and Just recently played Star Ocean1R and I really liked it, for me all SO games are great, even SO5 witch is one of my favorites to replay, the crafting system is really engaging and the bonus bar makes focusing on battles to improve the rewards of boss fights a fun thing to do. and the characters in general are way better than so4...

I missed the 2nd on PSP but I’m leaning towards the remake as a Christmas request! In the meantime I’ll try to finish off 1st Departure

I personally started off loving Star Ocean more than Tales Of but the last two games before the new one that I haven't even bothered with have made me hate the series. So much so that I'm too skeptical to give the new one a chance.

Till End of Time was the 1st game I played from the series, I loved it but I had not played the previous games. I still love it after playing the games that came before. I can definitely see how it doesn't age well though....ALOT of 80's, 90's RPG's let you kind of explore everything nook and corner for yourself....now a days people aren't really into that so yeah.

Wish Namco? would remake the Xenogears games (ya know the space/science fiction rpgs from the late 90's/early 00's), they were such good space/rpg games!

I love SO3 plot twist for how unique and crazy it is, but I hate it because how do you make a sequel after that twist? It basically forces SO3 to be the last game in the series timeline wise.

Star Ocean 5 sucks. The only good thing it had was that witch chick.

The Last Hope gets a lot of hate, but i loved it. Specially the world building with that ending.

I was hooked on Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube until my friend showed me the trailer for TtEoT. What a game.

I picked up the last hope last night, when I saw the Loli saying "kai" I was scared. When I get home later today I'll check if I can change languages to Japanese.....cuz hell no, I won't put myself through that torture

Star ocean 4 aka last hope doesn't have terrible voice acting...in fact it has a few renowned voice actors...what it has...is absolutely terrible writing and characters...no amount of good voice acting will make up for terrible writing and character concepts...making it japanese when not fluent in the language yourself just turns it into white noise and allows you to interpret read dialogue yourself to make it less cringe...so no what's her face little girl from last hope doesn't have a terrible voice actor...its just a terrible character concept with terrible writing being played out exactly as intended...no voice actor will make that character appealing when being played as written and intended

I'm rewatching this video after the announcement of Second Story R to see if I should jump into the series. I bet Gaming Broductions is pretty happy.

one of my first gaming consoles i got as a kid was psp. those games were epic.

I like 4, maybe because the combat is interesting and all the characters are unique.

2 was the best while 1 and 3 were great but after the 3rd the series just got worse and worse because they didn't keep amy of the things from 2 that made it a top tier game

Till The End of Time was the first Star Ocean game I played and I loved it...twist included. Played First Departure on the Switch but got bored halfway through and never finished. Had no problem w/Last Hope though found the fact that literally none of the characters ever blink outside of CG cutscenes endlessly distracting.
