You have not translated the Nepali Sherpas correctly, you miss out very important information. Such as when Norbu says at the end "when the members go back to their county they get their name credited for climbing Everest but the name of the Sherpa is not credited"

I wish there were more stories focused on the Sherpa. Many of us in more privileged countries hate our jobs, but keep going to put food on the table. I can’t imagine that job being so dangerous. They really are between a rock and a hard place.

These men deserve so much more. Take them away and the climbers would be on their own having to carry all their stuff and prepare the climb with ladders, ropes etc. I have so much respect for the Sherpas. They should also ban climbers not taking oxygen as it is way too risky.

Sometime you need my money, sometime I need your power- the man tells the sherpa. So sad how they are used on this mountain. The owners of these expeditions are so greedy!

Sherpas are not "true heros" they're mercenaries seeking payment for a job. It's a tourism industry and they exploit it why shouldn't they. They're not heroes, their economy is humbler lifestyle, the earning they get from these expedition is big in comparison. Plus they have the gene for breathing a low oxygen air. This hero image is a fallacy. They have good heart which is part of their cultural tradition. They will save people's life sometimes but it's part of their job. There is something racist about saying theyre true heros as if westerners were anti-heroes or pretending to be heroes. This is a veiled attack at westerners typical of the woke medias.

It saddens me to see people risking their lives to make things easier and safer for people with money. But it makes me sick that the tourism industry in Nepal as a whole can't help supplement their Sherpas' income. If it wasn't for the Sherpas, they would have no expeditions.

What I love is how you see humans having such a hard time but the Himalayan "blue sheep" live up at those high altitudes, it's home for them, and in so many of the scenes there are birds flying around without a care in the world.

The Sherpas should build a road to the summit so the Westerners can drive their Range Rovers up. I am not afflicted with this mental problem of climbing mountains. But my brother is so I understand it. I think it's unfortunate that the Sherpas are drawn into this peculiar culture.

Nepal is (in my opinion) the most beautiful country in the world. In 1991 I walked from Jiri to the Everest Base Camp and this was a wonderful experience. Not only the beautiful mountains, but certainly the friendliest people and very nice food. Loved everything about it. I actually stumbled across sir Edmund Hillary in Lukla, when he arrived by plain with a group of Americans to start walking, that was quite something. This documentary leaves a bad taste in my mouth though. All these rich people from around the world who want to summit Mount Everest and they pay their way into it. And the Sherpa's are litterally risking their lives to get them there. And work so hard to get all that equipment and tables and cookers to the higher camps, so the rich people can be comfortable and taken care of. I think Nepal and the Sherpa's should demand a lot more, money, life insurrence and a higher set of skills from the climbers who apply for a permit. So that the whole country can benefit.

Those ladders are sold in US where's stamped rating of 250 LBS---- not three people on one. BTW, film says carrying 20 kilos which is about 50 pounds per man and remember the porter makes 3 to 10 trips each leg of the whole trip, just to carry the loads. Trips for everyone to acclimatize means going up and down the same space several times.

Very important that's this movie mistakes: a Sherpa is a family name and a label for a kind of person. A lower case sherpa is a generic name for a porter or assistant climber.

I would call it "ego tourism". Sherpas create comfort for ego tourists [climbers] from different countries. On the other hand, where else could these people [Sherpas] make money? Why are they willing to do this work for a few hundred dollars? This is because Nepal is a poor country.

We must also give credit to the wives and children of the Sherpas. If a Sherpa dies on the mountain his family is given a pittance and struggle to survive. They are also the forgotten ones.

The Sherpa people deserve the fruits of Everest - without them no foreigners would ever summit.
They make it possible so why are foreign companies making the most money. The foreigners should pay the sherpa people to be the guides but never should they ever be paid more than them. They are not servants, they are humble hosts who do a job no foreigner is capable of. I hope the Tibetans and Nepalese people can agree that foreign business cannot sell their mountain to rich and privileged tourist and make the majority of money. Foreigners will not carry their poo with them up or down the mountain they will pay a desperate sherpa to do the work. Foreigners see everest as an ambition, a Facebook post, adverting. To the Sherpa everest is their mother God. That alone is why foreigners need to stay out of the business of Everest and the rightful owners manage everest, they do the work, they know the dangers, they save those desperate. Their DNA is proof they are the rightful owners. Tenzing deserves this legacy and Hillary would applaud it. If your a trekking company do the right thing by these beautiful people and get out of there you grubs.

Sherpas get paid about $1,200 per voyage, with bonuses if they get the tourist to the top. Compare this to the average per capita income of $7,000 (though likely much lower because the sherpas themselves skew this number higher, so average Nepalese who do not trek the mountains probably get closer to $4,000 a year or less). There is a huge incentive here. God bless these strong men and women, they are so brave.

For people on paid tours to claim they conquered Everest is absurd.
I wonder how many would have even attempted it without the Sherpas to map the path, bridge the crevasses, lay the safety lines and carry most of the gear?!

It’s a damn shame . People spend up to 100k . And the Sherpa gets jack squat . Shame on the guides . The guides sit on there ass and watch . Russel fed off of 100k each climber and the Sherpa make it happen . Pemba could make good money being a guide . I can go on . If I spent even 30k I would give my Sherpa a lot . It’s a joke . It’s called taking advantage of people that work hard and are not compensated for their worth . Just saying
