Warhammer has a similar aspect on a smaller scale
ОтветитьYour passion and energy for this game makes me want to play it.
Is it now out of print?
I came back to this video to tell you I picked up the Legend of the Five rings rpg book! It was in a used book store! :D
ОтветитьHow will I ever get this fire ring!?
strikes with no thought
yea in the height of the game it was amazing and great, sadly greed got to them and they didn't end it, would of been amazing if they did. They tried to do a new card game but it sucked.
ОтветитьI feel like if a new version of this came out you’d need some way to limit your ability to watch the streams or vods of the story tournaments to your clans, that way it would work like the newsletters, maybe you have to have the clan’s(or whatever replacement) name in your username and on other groups? If someone really wanted to I guess they could make multiple accounts but i feel like that would be de-incentivized and it may be able to create a culture that leads to identifying with a group, adding another layer against double dipping
ОтветитьIt needs a documentary, I think.
ОтветитьAnd here I am mad at the destiny to be born after this events. I really love Legend of the Five Rings, not as a Card Game but as an Tabletop and I even will attend a Larp Convention next year. But I would had loved to be a part of this.
ОтветитьI was working at a gamestore in the early 90s. We actually did a multi-player random starter deck draw with all the employees. I drew the Crab clan starter and ended up finishing second.
I got into it and was Dragon clan for the longest time.
I loved that game! I still have the full imperial edition and shadowland set! The only thing that make it fail in my opinion is that people who think asia is a land and mix chinese / korean and Japanese stuff into one everyone except americans who think asia is a land will dislike it. Chinese / Japanese and korean people dont like anything that mix their cultures into one country called asia either! They should have either keep it pure Japanese culture or asian countries fighting each other.
ОтветитьStill love this game to this day. My favorite deck that I built was a Lion deck called “The paragons of Bushido.” It was an honor-military hybrid deck that ran the “Bushido” event and almost dethroned the emperor in our local store’s L5R league. I misplayed one card and failed to defend my last province by one force after hitting well over 40 honor.
ОтветитьI got to play at an official LARP of L5R - I was the Fox Clan Ambassador - a minor role, and the big event was emperor Toturi's abduction.
ОтветитьI think there's a pretty rational reason why people don't do this now: An end of a game is the end of the profit you can get from it.
ОтветитьThink you got the daimyo & shogun terms reversed since Shogun > Daimyo.
ОтветитьWait, I thought there were explicit multiplayer rules such as the order of combat between key combatants & ally combatants.
ОтветитьI believe, AEG tried to develop a game set in Middle East desert culture after L5R. Legends of the Burning Sands or something. Not sure what happened in that game.
ОтветитьWas my favorite CCG. It made me stop buying MtG cards. I still keep my old L5R cards.
ОтветитьI've forgotten how many times I've watched this throughout the years. I swear I'll never get tired of it and I really miss this game.
ОтветитьThe one CCG that was made for multiplayer was Vampire The Eternal Struggle. My favorite with L5R.
ОтветитьEvery few months this video pops into my head. Really makes me want to design a story-driven card game with an expiration date.
ОтветитьBest card game ever made. To this day, I miss it. WOTC killed it.
Ответитьoh how i miss this game
ОтветитьThanks for this recap. What a great interesting story. Love it!
ОтветитьMakes me wish I could’ve been there, in SoCal in the 90s. Across the continent and a decade before I was born 😂
ОтветитьI am getting into L5R Roleplaying game, and this video is truly amazing, It makes me wish I was there playing the card game in 95-97, even though I was born in 97 ... I hope the same thing will be done by other games...
As a long time league of legends player it hurt my sould to hear you amazing idea about the game, this would truly make the players attached to it, since there is already tons of amazing lore that we love.
It happened only one time until now, with the Burning Tides event and the character Gangplank who was supposedly dead, but came back with a mechanical arm.
I wish there would be something like this now. When MCDM inevitably makes a TCG please try to do something like this!
Ответить+1
ОтветитьYou have to tell us other stories of that era and that game, man
ОтветитьThis is incredible, my dad used to play this game heavily as a Unicorn Clan member it's really interesting to hear your retelling of the events compared to everything he told me about the Day of Thunder. All I can say is I'm jealous.
ОтветитьI only started in the second story arc, after the Day of Thunder. But this still took me back to the excitement our tiny local gaming community shared about the game and story when we played it on the other end of the world
ОтветитьI live in a game store desert and I have no way to know how well Fantasy Flight is handling the IP...
ОтветитьSadly I was unable to attend the Day of Thunder, as I was living in Chicago, but there was a huge L5R scene here. Never got to participate in a story tournament, but I was a pretty strong presence for the Crane clan
ОтветитьI can see why a company might not want that sort of player engagement. For everyone who isn't there, which is going to be most of them, it's player DIS-engagement. Your experience with that game is something that only a very small portion of the game's community could ever have. Developers certainly don't travel to middle of nowhere towns like mine.
Ответить"I have seen three decades in the west of the world, and many disappointments, and many fruitless remakes...
ОтветитьMan, I'm just getting into L5R. Hearing about this feels amazing. Too bad I was 9 when L5R first came out.
ОтветитьI've watched this video so many times. Acquiring these cards is incredibly difficult due to how many sets were released in different editions.
ОтветитьI don't know how I've missed this video for years. But I now wonder if Matt is unfamiliar with Battletech.
ОтветитьDamn. Matt sold me this LCG in 5 minutes. What a legend!
ОтветитьI thought you were saying commie instead of kami. 😂
ОтветитьWish I still had my Unicorn shirt from the Day of Thunder, but I wore it to destruction.
Ответить“And he’s actually a commie.”
Wait wtf commie samurai
“He’s actually a god.”
Komrade Stalin goes to Japan? This game sounds weird
Wheels turn…. Memory banks are referenced
Ooooooh he means Kami.
Crane clannnnn!
ОтветитьGods, I remember playing this game! I loved it so much! I came to it through the Legend of the Five Rings RPG written by John Wick & David Williams.
ОтветитьThe boosters make these games TBH yet the Pay-to-Play model of starters and boosters was a really bad model, esspecially at the highly compeditive level for any CCG. The living model is a better model or better yet online.
ОтветитьThe toku musicals are still out thete
ОтветитьI didn't play L5R during the golden years, but I got to play it when Fantasy Flight picked it up. Loved the game instantly. Shame they axed it.
ОтветитьAfter watching this Video the third time I bought all the Legends of the five rings Ttrpg books Today. Probably the best game ill never play :)
ОтветитьHow does He drop murakami and never Talks about him ever?!!!
Ответить
