so if you can work remotely and it is cheaper to live there, then ? sounds efficient to me.

The bad would be the mayor who thinks she is the premier and declaring a climate emergency. Another bad, property taxes are out of control.

Hi Ryan, well done video !! What I like about your videos is that you are honest - no sugar coating.
The WEATHER really suck here (I absolutely hate it) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. 6-7 month long winters will crash you ! You said we have -40 C, well we get the -50C too ... We might possibly make a bit more here, however after living here for 20 + years I question if it is worth it ...
Without car, living in suburbs (where the affordable living / housing is for those coming from ON or BC) you will 100% not enjoy it. The City is huge and spread that to get anywhere by public transport will take you hours. Driving from suburbs to downtown where I work is on a good day morning about 45-60 minutes. In winter way longer !!! This is the reality that nobody talks about when it comes down to great living in Calgary 🥴. You have to drive that back home as well to your "affordable community" .... Deerfott and other main roads are constantly backed up ...
The new ring road around Calgary is good if you don't want to drive through Calgary from one end to the other. It helps you to bypass the traffic jam. Other good thing about the ring road is that you can drive around Calgary in circles... It doesn't resolve commuting within the city .....
Yes, Calgary downtown is kind of busier during 9am-5pm after that it is a ghost town. Not mentioning that the vacancy in downtown Calgary is still over 30%
I am living in Calgary for over 20 years and I can honestly tell you that the economy has changed. It is not the same as pre 2014.
Before you pull the plug and start moving to "Calgary freezer" for "better living" check it out first !!
And yes, the 2 months of brutal mosquitos will happen every year.
If the factor why you are moving to Calgary is cheaper housing ... it comes with a different price tag !!!!!

its hard to find work even with a degree. its hard to find housing. you should mention that calgary has a 0.04% vacancy rate. >.>.
80% of recycling ends up in landfill.
downtown has been a dump since pre pandemic. unless you want to drink all weekend in a nightclub there isnt much else to do.
public transit system is one of the worlds worst. look up the stuff that happens on transit. it isnt good at all. buses are no shows year round. people are attacked daily by the junkies that loiter at stations and on trains. If someone asks you for money and you say no, you will most likely get punched in the face. women are groped and assulted daily. theres no peace officers around.
high risk offenders are released constantly only to reoffend.
calgary is a dump and theres no small town feel.

If it's will be ok, I'll live to Calgary in the next six months: I come from Italy, where crime and worker condition are very bad.
The only problem I see at Calgary is the climate, but I'm ready for have better work condition.

Police state, weaponized medical system, weaponized university student loan mills, high taxes, thirty percent of downtown sits empty, same high inflation as anywhere else. Realtors sell for commission. Average house about 600k with utils and taxes about 1k per month.

lower taxes ? you smoking the legal canadian pot ? if you make 70,000 a year your taxed over 26,000 which gives you 49,000 net pay ,in New Brunswick if you make the same money your taxed 19,000 which gives you a take home pay of over 50,000 .affordable housing ? no way 2,000 a month rent ? that is not affordable ,wages ? $15.50- 17.50 if you are not skilled labour and yes if your with a spouse you both have to work to survive in Calgary ,housing in the 500k range ,well come to New Brunswick same house sells for 200k ,Calgary is one city i would avoid

Nice Review Ryan. I think you really tried to be fair. One of the major issues for me (someone who came from Vancouver 25 years ago), is the politics here - it is really polarized and divided. There is a strong very conservative component here (sometimes known as rednecks) who want absolute freedom, low taxes and could care less about the overall state of our Province. Then there is a strong NDP type presence here who are big on health and social services but weak on financial issues generally. There is very little in between.

A Vancouver Islander that came back to the Island from Alberta in 1992....biggest mistake I ever made, except for meeting my husband. Do you have any insight as to medical/Doctors at the present moment? We are having a huddle in the Spring weather we are leaving or not. I have been on this planet long enough to know that when things get rough in BC , people pack up and land in Alberta....a few years later when things look more promising they all flood back to BC. Whats your prespective on that?
