This scene is SOO well done. This and Ellie and Joel's talk in the flashback of TLOU2 are the best cutscenes I have ever seen.

This scene is just so amazing, the subtle facial expressions with the new animation, the voice cracking and voice changes. Everyone talks about Ellie’s voice cracking but Joel going from being angry and standoffish while arguing to able to cry when he said I got 2 walking in is heartbreaking.

damn I remember first time playing this game until this part I was like yeah cool game action blal bla bla whatever but after that I was really shaked and understand that I was playing a masterpiece

Ellie: [Turning to face him.] Stop with the bullshit! What are you so afraid of? That I'm gonna end up like Sam? I can't get infected. I can take care of myself.

Joel: How many close calls have we had?

Ellie: Well, we seem to be doing alright so far.

Joel: [Shouts.] And now you'll be doing even better with Tommy! [Turns away.]

Ellie: I'm not her, you know.

Joel: [Turns around.] What?

Ellie: Maria told me about Sarah. And I—

Joel: [Sternly] Ellie. [Pause. With an icy rage.] You are treading on some mighty thin ice here.

Ellie: I'm sorry about your daughter, Joel, but I have lost people too.

Joel: [Angered.] You have no idea what loss is.

Ellie: Everyone I have cared for has either died or left me. Everyone— [Pushes Joel.] fucking except for you! [Begins crying.] So don't tell me that I would be safer with someone else because the truth is I'd just be more scared.

Joel: [Coldly.] You're right... you're not my daughter, and I sure as hell ain't your dad. And we are going our separate ways.

I've been wondering the same as everyone for a long time: What's the name of the theme that plays when they argue?

Hopefully they make a sequel to this game some day.

Having now watched both old and new versions of this scene (only just got around to my first playthrough in the past couple of weeks), it's interesting how much more body language there is in the remaster. The way Joel's head rather trembles on "mighty thin ice" and "know what loss is", the way Ashley's voice cracks a little on "scared", there's so much more emotion in this scene than just the words being said.

I absolutely wanted to whack Joel one here and give Ellie a hug, not gonna lie.

The Graphing of this scene in the PS5 Edition, this scene feels more realistic!

The way Ellie first says "Everyone e..." as if she already wanted to say "except" but than decides to put a "fucking" before the "except" is such an impressive and realistic detail.

They can’t top or come close to their original work. They tried. But they just can’t, it’s impossible.

If only HBO had hired someone that looks almost identical to ellie would be nice

I think Joel was in some way afraid that Ellie would one day become the new Sarah that he would become attached to, and would be dear to him and that he would not save from death again if she stayed with him.
Ellie understood this and said that she was not Sarah.

Joel has survived this long in the apocalypse and he isn’t afraid to beat down on clickers or bandits. But this scene shows what Joel fears the most… Ellie. Ellie even asked him “What are you do afraid of? I can’t get infected!” Most of us know that Joel is having daughter feelings for Ellie and he’s trying to brush her off to Tommy so he doesn’t crawl even deeper into those feelings. Joel lost one daughter before and he’s doing all he can to avoid that situation from happening again. Amazing performance from Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson!

man fuck Bella Ramsey, she butchered Elie's character with her terrible acting . Comparing this scene to the show, the show is absolute garbage. Pedro did a good job as Joel, but Bella, she is the worst casting choice in the whole show.

I don’t know why people keep expecting 100% adapt like wtf , Joel in the movie ain’t even the same as Joel in the game , I already hope 70% of adapt and they did it , I think that’s good enough

I remember hearing that Ashley Johnson improvised the push during "-cking except for you." And they liked it so much, they included it in the Live Action scene.

Shame that some folks will only ever see the TV version of this scene. Don't get me wrong, the show has its charm, but it holds nothing to the game when putting them side by side. God damn this game is just fantastic.

Everyoe's comparing them to see who's had it worse, but they missed the point that they both went through pain in their own, different ways. Even if losing a child is worse, their pain is both valid and both different in their own ways!

Joel was feeling to guilty opening up about his dead daughter and doesn’t want to talk about. Since hes been through a lot and this is why he’s so cold towards Ellie

What I like about this remake scene is that at the end of his conversation where tommy enters, Joel keeps looking at Ellie, while in the original when tommy arrives he looks away.
