Verfmolen "de Kat" {The Cat Windwill); Zaandam, The Netherlands (1 of 2)

This wind-powered mill is the only one of its kind to still be producing artists' pigments. The current mill, built sometime in the 1960s, refines pigments like Burnt Sienna and Sarti Chalk.

This short video shows the actual milling process at the ground level of the mill, where a large wheel breaks down the chalk into a fine powder and, in a separate area, larger pieces of Burnt Sienna are being broken down by hammer-like protusions.
