Sony a7III vs. Canon EOS R vs. Nikon Z6 2020 Rematch!

This is great content even after 3 years. I am finally looking into upgrading and even shifting to a new system. I’ve been a Nikon user since film! And when the shift towards a dslr photo video combo came into being I decided to actually “downgrade”, choosing an entry level dslr (nikon d5300) and a few nikkor afs wide aperture lenses, selling the rest of my gears and never looked back. Until now. Looks like Nikon has improved a lot on the video side. But I am seriously considering Sony A series.

You guys love those fully articulating screens but I haven't seen you try to use one with an L bracket attached. At that point they are useless.

In video it beats all 3, AF tracking is pretty good too, image quality.

I have the Z6. Love it. Just bought the Z50 to go with it. I love they use the same mount on all their mirrorless. Slapped the 50 1.8 right on the Z50 and the shots looked great.

10 ERRORES Y PASOS ATRAS DE LA SONY A7III respecto a SONY A99 Y OTRAS, la verdad es que estamos mucha gente con el mismo problema. El problema principal de la A7III no es solamente que el balance de blancos automático y color es completamente delirante y hace cosas rarísimas. Te comentamos nuestra experiencia. Nosotros llevamos 15 años con Sony. Desde la A900 y luego A99 y 99II. Auténticas maravillassss. Pero de repente. Han venido con este invento y han hecho lo siguiente. Venden como novedades características de la A99 desde hace muchos años y han bajado la calidad de manera exagerada. Comento en que se diferencia por ejemplo la Sony Alpha 99 respecto a la Sony A7III.

Cambian la montura A mount compatible con objetivos Minolta que es mas ancha y puede tener más posibilidades. Cambian también las baterías de la serie A mount sin más motivo que el de maltratar a todos los usuarios de Sony, pero empecemos con lo realmente importante. Han reseteado la calidad y si hubieran hecho un A99III sin espejo habría sido increible. Pero han bajado calidad y prestaciones a cero y han restando calidad por todos los lados.

Diferencias entre A99 y A7III

1. Con la A99 el BALANCE DE BLANCO Y COLOR son espectaculares, en cambio, EN LA A7III MALÍSIMOS tanto para fotos como para video. Hacer cualquier trabajo cuesta muchísimo más. Fotos en mismas condiciones de luz salen con diferentes tonos, colores... algo que no pasa ni con la A99 ni otras marcas de compañeros que se han vuelto a las cámaras que utilizaban anteriormente porque les cuesta muchísimo trabajar el color.

2. Además han quitado la PANTALLA DESPLEGABLE 360º de la A99 (una auténtica maravilla, la única pantalla actualmente desplegable de verdad del mercado). Se puede hacer fotos desde cualquier punto moviéndose verticalmente 180 grados y girando sobre si misma 360ª, lo que quieras. Pues bien, la han quitado y le han puesto a la A7III un desplegable RIDICULO. Seguramente vendrán en dos años con el gran descubrimiento de la pantalla abatible 360 que llevara 15 años en uso y eliminaron de su actualización sacacuartos, pero lanzaran con una gran campaña de publicidad anunciándolo a bombo y platillo.

3. La CALIDAD DEL MICRÓFONO de la A99 o cualquiera de la serie A mount es muy superior a la de la A7III. Hasta la más barata de la serie A tenia mejor sonido.

4. La A99 tiene un grip con una conexión que no hace falta ni quitar tapitas ni leches y puedes utilizar 3 baterías simultáneamente. Con el CARGADOR que venia en las cámaras que era buenísimo. Ahora en la A7III que si quitas la TAPITA Y CARGADORES a precio de oro. La tapas de la A99 se pulsan las pestañas y se abre y cierra con presionar, algo que en la a7III también han quitado.

5. Han eliminado el BOTÓN DE RECORTE de la A99 que es super útil y no solamente no lo han puesto en la A7III, sino que ni siquiera se puede configurar, no aparece.

6. Han eliminado el MODO PANORÁMICO de la A99. Muy útil para hacer panorámicas de paisajes de forma automática. Pues bien, la A7III no lo tiene.

7. La A99 tiene una EMPUÑADURA muy ergonómica y cómoda. La han cambiado por una empuñadura pequeña e incomoda de la A7III. De que sirve reducir unos gramos para quitar la empuñadura, si luego siguen haciendo objetivos que pesadísimos en lugar de hacer objetivos mas ligeros y manejables. Un sinsentido.

8. Han quitado los SESORES DE ACERCAMIENDO DE OJO AL VISOR de la A99. Esto que implica, que en la A7III haces fotos con mascarilla y si se te empaña el visor, se apaga la pantalla y no ves por el visor. Un error monumental. Tienes que andar cambiando de visor a pantalla o poner las dos activos todo el rato. Otro paso más atrás respecto a la A99.

9. MENÚS DE INFARTO. Para encontrar cualquier tontería en los menús es complicadísimo. Creo que están mal organizados y son muy poco intuitivos.

10. En la A99 el punto de enfoque era VERDE para que se distinga bien en la pantalla. En la A7III lo ponen gris, con dos narices para que no haya ser humano que vea donde esta en punto del enfoque. PUNTO DE ENFOQUE COLOR GRIS????


Conclusión, tengo la sensación de que en muchos aspectos, vamos para atrás. Resetean todas las cosas buenas que tienen sus modelos A mount y empiezan de cero maltratando al usuario de mala manera. Una pena haber confiado en la marca durante tantos años.

Your review is much better than most You give all the pro's and con's and I can make my own decision . For studio photography its the Canon .How about complaining about the 0-60 of a Rolls Phantom .or you cant fit 7 in a sports McLaren..It has to be a Canon .I dont need a Walkman

The biggest elephant for me as a Canon shooter is that Canon is still crippling cameras in obvious ways. I had a Sony a6000 that could provide both internal recording and clean HDMI output at the same time. I currently have a Sony RX10iv that can also. Not to mention I have a GoPro that can. Why can’t a much more expensive Canon give me that? They don’t even offer it in the R6. We can easily assume that all of their modern cameras are capable of it but we know why they hold back on us

Did anyone ever do a video comparison of how everyone’s 1st generation full frame mirrorless cameras compared to the other 1st gen FF cameras?

I know some will say it’s not a fair comparison. But the idea is not to compare the actual cameras, but the companies, and how each company did with their first entries into full frame mirrorless.

Canon and Nikon’s 1st gen FF mirrorless bodies definitely have room to grow, but Sony didn’t light the photography world on fire until A7 II either.

I think that if you use the phrase "still relevant" too much that it becomes a question of trust and that's not a good sign.
likewise all this talk of "excellence"...

Seems to me there's something about the Sony that gives you pause...or something about the Canon and Nikon that makes you want to put them on par with the Sony


The market says that the Canon is not quite at the level of the other two.
Which is fine.
Canon is probably perfectly happy with that. They will sell two cameras on price alone for every camera the other two sell.

Seems like what this review is really missing is a clear 1, 2, 3 list of features and relative performance with a weighting for each item in the list.
...of course based on whether you had to live with that one camera. Cause you could get more than one.

There's a certain inherent advantage to buying cheap gear, in that you know that you're not going to pay more for the same features and performance.
But following that logic, you have to be happy with the performance that you get from it.

And why do we need two guys to give a review about one camera for one person? That's scary.

Everyone always complains about 4k video crop but for me, as someone who mainly uses video for macro, I find it to be a positive thing.

Great review guys. I have a Z6 and I use it for Bird Video. When it is 'on' it really does punch with the 200-500mm F5.6. However, I find it frustrating as the focus struggles with birds on branches or on the ground. Basically, the camera does not know what to focus on which means manual focus and then the subject has often moved away. I have been told that Sony would be better. Do you have any advice either on settings or opinion on the Sony V Nikon focus in Video ?

i thought z6 had better dynamic range? u can recover underexpose pictures better than sony idk i saw on other video.. its hard to decide between those tho.. the lens i want to buy i think is more expensive for sony the sigma 50mm 1.4 art

Great review. Sounds like someone who needs great low light capability might be able to pick between Sony A7III and Nikon Z6, without giving up on camp-fire and astro photography...

Incredibly informative! Love Canon but drawn towards Sony because it just seems to have the edge.

It doesn't seem like the " banding" is a minor issue! If that's what I'm gonna get when I try to recover underexposed areas then the camera is useless.

Image Q - canon third place - one needs to watch this almost to the end to find out that it was useless. Sony image quality - first place? Yes Sony's IQ is even better than their menus (leaving with a sardonic grim).
