If she logged into her account on her friend’s phone she had a memorable non-random password, and that is another Apple security problem. Sometimes Apple has log-ins which require typing, such as into iCloud. Apple is one of the worst in this regard.

it is not the biggestPROBLEM for phone security.. The built in GPS, that cannot be shut off (the GPS has it's own power source that keeps the pining on for weeks) without removing the backup GPS battery.. in an SHTF scenario, that little intentional "problem" will lead a tyrannical G O V T right to your bug out location.. Never take your cell outside the home.. USE a paper map.. (foreign concept to the young) LOL That will save your life.

It would be helpful to have passcode numbers actively change their positions to make it more difficult to ID the numbers. I saw this years ago at a parking lot entrance.

The best solution is: when we go sign on with our Apple ID, instead of apple sending a code to the phone, they should ask a Security question. No one else would know how to answer but the person who owns the phone, so if the stolen phone "s thief will never be able to answer that question nor be able to access the Apple ID, nor change the password. Back to basics, Security questios are safer than stupid numberic codes being sent back to the phone. Duh

apple should only allow you to use stored passwords with biometrics and passcode should only be to give you 5 more chances of using the biometrics scanners

It’s beyond my comprehension why Apple, the company who claims to care so much about privacy and security won’t just fix that simple exploit. It wouldn’t be hard at all.

Is it a good idea to use both Face ID and passcode as iPhone security?

Hard to believe that you missed the most important tip that would’ve prevented all of this from the beginning. If she would’ve just went to screentime and there to restrictions and deactivated the possibility for account and code changes in there (with a separate four digit passcode for screen restrictions) the crooks would not even have come to her iCloud account, or would have seen the option Face ID & Code.
