Mechanical Engineer here. I was sceptical, to say the least, towards mechanical keyboards. I could see why a keyboard that had macro keys, backlight, or was wireless was more expensive. But mechanical keyboards seemed to be something that was nice to have, at best case.
And then it was time to prepare my degree project, and to write a substantial number of words.
Well, I wasn't a blind typist but I still wasn't happy anymore with my membrane keyboard.
Which wasn't a bargain bin dubious name discount store special either. It was a decent MS model.

If you are on budget, buy a cheap one ro get you by. But if you are going ro use your keyboard a lot, and a professional will, especially if he or she is a small business owner, buy something better when you can. Keyboards don't affect directly the machine's performance, but they also don't depreciate due to advances in technology so easily. And that goes for screens, speakers and other stuff.

hey, for the HP 975:
1) can you lock the function keys? that is, make them so you press an "Fx key" without pressing the "fn key".
2) And what's the material of the keyboard's body?
thanks!

Logitech MX Keys is the keyboard I prefer. Nice tip feeling, awesome quality, short cuts and the option to connect up to 3 devices 🤤

Dami, I had to look up an article on vocal fry and uptalk. It seems like they're somewhat connected to culture & location, which I expect would be appreciated by more people than not. Maybe something is wrong with the ears of these few people who complained.

I use a Logitech K740 which I think is discontinued. At around 3 years the key usually start to fall apart, which is coming up so I have to start pondering. I learned to type of a manual typewriter (last class) and actually ran a Telex machine at one job (which is a crazy machine if you have never used one). The HP - did not know about it, sound comparable - just no wrist rest - but I used to very much enjoy the first IBM style keyboards. My brother went with a mechanical as says that is the way to go .. but that HP is tempting.

I just wanted a full sized silent keyboard that is very sensitive to the touch and that glows red IN the keys, and the keys never wear off.

Is that too much to ask? HAhaha

Just wanted to say how spot on I think she was when describing the feeling of typing on a mechanical keyboard that's a good fit for you.

Even though how I use it is very different and is very different itself, I have the same relationship with keyboards. I have a perfectly functional $3 keyboard I like. But I also have a custom ortholinear (Colemak layout, split configuration with thumb clusters) keyboard I've tweaked to my preference in every aspect and for better ergonomics. It makes me enjoy typing and makes me to type more. It feels in fact like when I'm using my favorite fountain pen.

i went with the logitech g915, i ended up with the clicky switches but i kind of wanted the tactile but i couldnt find one at the time. i recently got a corsair k100 air and there is just something about corsair/icue that really sucks and i think they need to fix their software because typing random letters/numbers just doesnt work

📺💬 That is the priceless keyboard ( added conversation ) until you and ears talk 🥺💬 That is two meanings when ears function work or the ears work.
📺💬 Yui I saw that 🥺💬 Normally I buy some pre-print ebooks only for reading Packt only 5$ but the last ebook is 45$ I am considering to subscribe the channel but busy with a job application I tell you.
📺💬 Yui stop creating examples on the ebook topic bullet 🥺💬 Actually I bought them, read them, and create notes sometimes explaining with examples and I found and understand more content by comparing of experiment that is all.

📺💬 Yui we are talking about the keyboard 🥺💬 Keyboard need to be comfortable and one reason for Dell's low step signaling you need to install a driver or update the Windows driver that is because they are working in compatible mode as a server keyboard. 🥺💬 Have you experienced boot time working with some OS or some information can transmitting with the same bandwidth, keyboard input rates does not require more bandwidths but it can transmit specific command or work with some program when decrypted input sequences.
🧸💬 Alt + Ctrl + Home, weapons reloading ...

📺💬 Yui that is because she had this skills/ 📺💬keyboard
🥺💬 I know friends from Warwick she graduated do not treat yourself to treat anybody.

Oh man. Good for you on stopping at 3 different ones. Just going into "mechanical" gives you thousands upon thousands of options to play around with, and the differences are super significant, starting with tactile, linear or clicky, and weight and smoothness from there, and many people get super into the noise profile. I love Topre, which is a completely different kind of switch. I had a Topre for a few years and loved it, but I missed out on a lot of the advancements over the last few years in mechanical keyboards, so I spent $1000 in a month for some "self-discovery." It basically told me that Topre is still king and I'm still using the Topre. It's super tactile, yet buttery smooth. And quieter than most things, but the sound it makes is super pleasing.

I actually find tactiles quieter than linear, because you don't need to bottom out for tactile feedback.

This is considered a beginner entry level board. Sweet spot is $200-400 range.. ignore prebuilts.. get a barebones keeb where you have to buy switches and keycaps. Silent switches are a thing.. GMK is considered king of ABS caps. Lube your switches, mod your stabs, use foams if you want.

I’ve tried dozens of keyboards. Dome, MX Cherry, etc. My favourite mecha switch is the Romer-G linear. It’s also the only switch type with dual activation pads on each switch. For gaming I like my Logitech G 513 with Romer G Linear switches. For the TV I use a Logitech 870 media keys. And for laptops, on PCs, the ThinkPad keyboards are the best in the industry, though my daily driver is a ‘21 MacBook Pro and I love the clean, smooth, substantial feel of the Magic Keyboard. Though it’s quite different from the “typing perfection” feel of the ‘08-‘12 unibody era MBPs, the actuation pressure feedback has a premium feel with less wobble and flex than any other keyboard I’ve ever used. I’m very pleased with it.

I have a HyperX mechanical kb. The deck is all aluminum. It doesn't flex. Grabbing the kb in two hands I can't twist it at all. The keys are louder but more durable. No Bluetooth, just a wire connection to the PC, but after many kbs over the years I finally have an indestructible one.

So now I've been using this $20 keyboard for about 7 years and it's still pretty good for a wired keyboard.

Nuphy has the 96 now, which also has a numpad included on the keyboard. I would probably go for that one, considering how useful a numpad can be for development and design.

I use the wireless keyboards by CHERRY.. I think they are called Stream.. they are quite affordable, but have a great feel to it. As I am on laptops mostly, I wanted the shorter elevation that laptop keys have compared to especially oldschool desktop keyboards.. it feels like a really high quality laptop keyboard like Thinkpad keyboards, even a bit higher in quality, but doesnt feel so weird when changing from laptop keyboard to desktop keyboard.

But the most important thing about them is: that I can replace them without too much money thrown out of the window.. which is important because I throw my water over my laptops like at least one time a year or so..

unless one of those highend keyboards is completely waterproof and also easy to clean, I will continue using my Cherry Stream Wireless Keyboards,
