Yet Another "BEST" AFK Money Farm on YouTube (1 Plat/sec) | Terraria 1.4.4

As a mod developer I was interested in the tooltips being associated with performance, so I did some digging. I tested each method (tooltips and no tooltips) under identical conditions, these being:

-Post-ML gear
-9 daggers and 1 frog
-Same exact PC, world, character etc.
-200 NPCs

The only variable between the two was whether I was hovering over the tooltip. I then ran a performance profiler (JetBrains dotTrace) which allowed me to see what was taking up the most processing time in each tick. Here is what I found:

Without the use of tooltips, the profiling duration was 14,195ms in length. 43% of this time (6164ms) is taken up entirely by the game playing sounds.


With the use of tooltips, the profiling duration was 7,693ms in length. 12.83% of this time (1386ms) is taken up entirely by the game playing sounds.

Considering this, it is apparent that the sounds take up a much larger segment of the tick when not using tooltips.

Based on this, I can conclude that the performance change is not a placebo effect but is in fact very real (indeed, my frames went from ~40 to ~60 when using tooltips). This performance change is almost entirely caused by the game playing more sounds without the tooltips being active (alternatively, the sounds could also be being handled more efficiently while using tooltips, though this is less likely).

This result surprised me a lot. I will do further digging as to the specific reason behind this and edit this comment to reflect it. Oh and thanks Mappy, I enjoyed the video.

You can have a higher tick rate by removing the cap and than its set to your moniters refresh rate.

built the farm and it functions faster (less laggy) if you set your sound to 0% (this is not new information im pretty sure)

or you can use a chest glitch/ exploit wich requires a chest and a single coin ( perferably platinum but any will work since they acumulate fast): so what you do is put coin in chest save and exit come back grab coin and save exit again but as you are in the saving screen as soon as player data saves you exit via task manager, then you join back in and repeat the proces till you are satisfied (i got a full chest of plat in 20 mins from a copper coin.. its pretty broken) but one thing you need to remember is that autosave ia a big nono (also you can do the same glitch with every item lol) happy exploiting :D

This is the kind of farm that you need to use once per character because it’s so over powered. Good job bro.

If you want to make it as efficient as possible just use a lucky coin and a blade staff, preferably with a bad modifier like broken to maximize hits (also blade staff is the fastest attacking summon weapon and has no immunity frames)

Ah yes, a money farm, which is indeed not made utterly useless by the fact that I either just cheat or wind up collecting tons of money anyways, more than I'd ever reasonably spend.

I finally decided to make set it up myself, and was able to get it working without even any hoiking or advanced wiring.
About 1 plat every three seconds to be exact
Though it capped out at 159 spiders and I wasn't able to fit in more. Is there something I'm missing?

im a bit confused on how this works, is it still making new spiders at the spawning farm? if not then how can you manage to kill them and respawn them at the same time? maybe im missing something but i feel like that wasnt really explained.

for some reason when I teleport to the main area I don't get put inside of the teleporter I get put into the blocks below any ideas why?

This actually helped me figure out why the coin icon on the map disappears when you get close; it’s just a marker for whatever enemy is holding those coins that lets its position be preserved while despawned.

But what if you decided to be an absolute troll and use golden slimes instead of recluses? Lucky ring drops 20% of the mobs money right? So pick the tankiest and most valuable mob, the golden slime, it is rare, but it will ultra boost the farm right?
