I strongly recommend attending Performances at the Kennedy Center. Take the Metro train to Foggy Bottom and there's a free red shuttle that will take you directly there. They usually have free daily show at 6pm. Reserve online or go to will call to request free tickets.

The entire DMV has reliable public transportation including the Gaylor/MGM via King Street(bus) or King's Street waterfront via water taxi. The only places that may have limited public transportation is in extremely affluent areas Glen Echo, MD or McLean.

I have K Street, Connecticut Avenue, and DuPont monument (and snow balls) and my first cousin has Pennsylvania Avenue SO IMPORTANT THAT A REKNOWNED DOG KNOWS 1600 PENNA AVENUE. The dog would bark each time her master's brain was hijacked, and they also do this on BBC (Speaker provided by Ebo Guanane of Ghana, Florida.) The trains are still alien. I was privileged to enjoy a roommate at the former Yale Psychiatric Institute whose father was the president of Amtrack and he came onto me while I was on the train. Or was it the Judge? He said, "I'll give him a raise," when the guy said, "Because that's how much it costs" when a patient I mean passenger said it's expensive. I AGREED WITH THE PASSENGER. Amtrack runs up to thirty-five mph, like the terrible bullet train in Tokyo. Metro North costs less with better schedules and a quiet ride. The only thing is when I got there, I had to pull my papers out of the door when it shut.

Washington is the official name of the city. DC is the name of the district in which Washington belongs. In other words, DC only has one municipality, Washington.

What if it is like saying that the pressure put on Washington state in all conditions is going to end like the alphabet.
Logic of Oregon state stepping up to Columbia and the world like they take responsibility.
What if Washington state has never been able to retire since the origins of the USA. What if saying Washington isn't a real state because Oregon doesn't recognize them is finally going to make sense.

You can take a water taxi from DC waterfront directly to National Harbor MD for about 25 bucks round trip. Good way to sneak in a side trip on your visit. I use it when I dont want to battle the traffic.

As a native Washingtonian and a former tour guide. Night tours are awesome. You never know what you may see, especially at the Washington monument. I saw many a performance

From DC and have lived here all my life. No one here calls it the DMV (that's a weird internet thing or something that transplants adopt). Fall is an amazing time to visit here. If you want to save a bit of money on hotels and want better food to eat, I always tell people to stay in MoCo or Arlington. The best restaurants in this area are NOT in the city but rather in the 'burbs. As long as you stay near a Metro and are in MoCo or Alexandria/Arlington/Roslyn you are fine. DO NOT be tempted to save money by staying in a cheap hotel in Southeast. I know people who did this and regretted it. Finally (and I cannot emphasize this enough) BE AWARE OF CRIME. There is crime here and it's been much more violent in the last few years than it had been in years. Keep your personal possessions on your body. Do not walk around with earphones in or your iPhone out and visible. Use a sling bag or something that stays tight to your body and carry ONLY what you need.

The French don't pronounce or greatly soften the consonant if it's the last letter in the word (and the next word doesn't start with a vowel). "Un je ne sais quoi". You can see the second "s" in "sais" is silent. The n in "un" is barely pronounced, so it's pronounced with a really soft n. The French u is half way between short e and short u in English: "eh-un" (soft n!). The French "e" in "je" and "ne" is closer to a short u in English: "Juh nuh". And I think you completely forgot to say "ne". :) "eh-u(n) juh nuh say kwah" is one way you could transliterate to English. It literally means "an I don't know what" but the intent of the phrase is more like "a special something."

I've been to DC a few times, but I still need to visit some of the other neighborhoods one of these days as well as check out the museums. I agree that flying into BWI to get to the DC area is not fun. Anytime I had to go to the DC area for work-related trips in the past, my boss always flew me into BWI since it was always the cheapest compared to Dulles and Reagan.
