One of the best reviews of a rpg book and its rules. Your review couldn't have been any better. Congrats! Most of others making "reviews" just flip pages and literally keep saying how the art looks great so the rules must be good, too.

Better? depends. I will agree it outdoes anything from 2nd edition forward. I will also say Warhammer 1 and 2nd editions are also better. I like the superior setting dynamics the grittier aspects and the lack of play balance pandering. Everything D&D 2nd forward has been too much about mollycoddling players that just want to have everything spelled out, no imagination required. And heaven forbid a PC actually dies. BECMI and AD&D 1st are good games. But the game was increasingly whored out for the sake of selling books. Anyone buying D&D 5th 2024 has more money than brains. Warhammer adventures are vastly more fun. D&D is just an endless series of monsters to bash in Dungeons. No politics intrigue or real reason to roleplay.

One note, you don't lose consciousness immediately at 0 hp, but get like a critical prone, it's when you've been at 0 hp consecutively for your toughness bonus rounds you lose consciousness. So your still able to fight but are very precarious, that's at least from the first rule book.

Character uniqueness is superior, for starters. Magic is scary even for the caster…overall it just more fun to play.

Love the setting but the game has too much bloat and is too clunky. I have a nightmare of a time talking any of my friends into playing this game.

Thanks for the video! The Artowrk in the book is really something! I never played a pen and paper RPG, but if I would get into it it would definitely be WFRP. Maybe a stupid question, but is it also played with minis as representation of the characters and monsters, or "only" pen and paper? Or is both possible?

I'm a bit disappointed in the base rulebook critical wounds tables being a bit weakly themed. There isn't really a hierachy for say the head being more devastating.

Warhammer is a tabletop RPG for the adults while D&D is for kids & Liberals.

Still woke as hell. You want to play Warhammer ? Play second ed where there are no women and people of color every two pages.

Regarding the careers vs classes, I think everyone agrees they should be listed in the rules alphabetically. Especially since class doesn’t have any relevance in actual game play. Having said that, if you look at the very top of each page, you’ll see which class the career is in. On your walk through, the video didn’t show the very top of the page but it does list the class tied to each career. Well done on your videos, btw. I really enjoy them.

Great video for a great game.
Played the initiation boxed set with my fellow players (used to DnD and Cthulhu) and that was a total blast : our campagn won't stop for now on.

Great review!
I love WFRP. Like yourself I've played 1e, 2e and 4e. Skipped 3e altogehter as the system just didn't appeal to me at all. I have a love/hate relationship with 4e. It's great, but it's also a little bit crunchy in some areas. It takes a little while to get into, but once you've got it I think most people will love it. Please do more WFRP content!
PS: Only the attacker deals damage in combat, even if the defender has more SLs. But some Talents and Traits allow a defender to cause damage as well.

Great video! Your tour of the game answered all my questions and it was lovely to hear all this from someone who clearly loves the setting. Thanks!

I’m currently running 2nd edition WFRP. What are the main differences between 2nd and 4th edition?

Timely video! I recently swapped my BX game over to WFRP 4E after years of trying to get folks interested and we are loving it so far. Its a huge change to the table but the simulation aspects of the game are jiving with everyone really well.

I've been trying to get another group interested but it's hard to get folks to look at anything other than the ampersand game.

Edit: it says what class you're in at the top of the right page, BTW!

I fully agree, Warhammer FRPG so far ahead of DnD. And the starter set is simply in a different league. The adventure is superior to anything WotC ever put in one of their starter sets. And they include beautiful dice from Q Workshop, not the cheap ugly ones DnD put in. But the starter set is worth buying for the Guide to Ubersreik alone. There's so much in it, you could run a whole campaign just with that guide alone. What I also like about Warhammer FRPG is that exotic races are not playable and elves and dwarves are rare. And I like it that way.
