ENG===
A movie of yokai(Japanese monster) paintings and music by Shinji Yamashina.
Using traditional Japanese instruments such as the taiko drum, shinobue flute, and shakuhachi (bamboo flute), as well as piano and flute, Yamashina creates a unique world see of yokai using his own drawings of yokai set to traditional and contemporary music.
Recommended for those interested in Japanese yokai, ghosts, ethnicity, and culture.
Please enjoy the world of yokai, which is depicted beautifully, suspiciously, sometimes humorously, and sometimes terrifyingly.

NOTES====
When I was a child, I visited the countryside where my grandmother lived during summer vacation. I played with six other children, some relatives, and some neighbors. When my mother called us all together for a snack, there were only enough snacks for five of us.

I said, "Mother, you are missing one snack for one person."
My mother said, "What are you talking about? There are enough for all five of us."
I said, "Not five. There are six. Look, there is a girl in kimono over there. Is that her?"
My mother said, "There is no such girl. You are a strange boy. Go eat and play."
"She was there just a moment ago. I wonder if she went home."

When I told my grandmother about the girl later.
She said, "That must be the Zashiki-Warashi, a yokai. It's a yokai that children can see but adults can't."
I looked horrified. My grandmother continued.
"Don't be afraid. The "Zashiki-Warashi" is like a guardian god who lives in this house. Thanks to her, I can live happily."

The "Zashiki-Warashi" is a yokai in the form of a child that lives in an old house or warehouse. There are many folklores of Zashiki-Warashi, especially in the Tohoku region, and they can still be found today. It is said that when they come to a house, they bring happiness, and when they leave the house, the family loses happiness.

We need to have a kind heart to accept yokai and a straight mind to feel happiness in small things.
The mind possessed by a person who searches around for a "Zashiki-Warashi" in order to be happy will never be satisfied. Happiness is a personal value. The "Zashiki-Warashi" may be teaching us the importance of a kind heart.
