I‘ve been a union ironworker since 1999. Local 512 Minneapolis-St.Paul I’ve been in the rod patch my entire career. It feels good to be noticed and I would like people to see what we do here. In the beginning there were days where we would punk bars all day while others tied template. Next day, we tied it up. Bottom mat, 50%, top mat, 100%. There is a lot of pride driving over a bridge I have bled on. We are a strong brother and sisterhood.

I suspect even in a fully automated age, jobs like this will still have humans crawling over the project to check, and train.

Here we are, 2023 and these guys are still busting rods like they did well over a hundred years ago.

I can think of a dozen different tools that could speed this process up and reduce fatigue. Crazy.

never seen such a beautifull, clean "tie gun". I worked in a factory where we prefeb concrete segments, our guns ofc had their battle scars. Still had to manually know to yeah, cause we only had in our section and broke a few times. One idiot forgot to tie it, and tried to after the concrete was poured by shoving the head of the gun in the concrete...

Whenever I see vertical rebar I immediately think of the different ways I could be impaled on it. Like rebar equals death. It's cool stuff, and I know how important it is to securing concrete and keeping structures upright and all that. But it freaks me out. ☠

Sometimes you have to fail to succeed, Most times it amazes me greatly how I moved from an average lifestyle to earning over $63k per month, Utter shock is the word. I have understood a lot in the past few years that there are lots of opportunities in the financial market. The only thing is to know where to invest...

Rerod companies literally treat their employees like slaves. It's all about making money for the company while the guys get as little as possible. The life expectancy of these guys is pretty short and those who can "push" themselves through to "retirement" end up crippled to enjoy their remaining years.

i beg to differ. Try Sand Blasting a tank when it is 130 degrees inside a confined space. Now that is one of the toughest job in all of construction. I dont care who you are. That job separates the Men from the Boys, with in a matter of 2 minutes your body becomes a River of Sweat.

To anyone that wondered about the guy removing the spring from the new lineman pliers. The spring in the lineman pliers, automatically open the pliers. That sounds like it helps. When you spend all day squeezing the pliers through tie wire, the added pressure of the spring really wears out the hand quicker. Remove the spring, less pressure required to cut the wire. So, he really wasn't doing a "real men don't use springs", he really was helping.

Listen… i have love for all my rebar buddies at work and they do work hard! But by NO MEANS are they the hardest workers by any stretch of the imagination! I’m a carpenter and I promise you we have it wayyyy harder then the rebar guys! Try running on their rebar carrying two sheets of 3/4” ply wood at a time for about 200’ because the cranes busy and concretes coming… don’t get me started, you guys in the southern states have it easy! Try doing this type of things in -20degree Celsius winter and then +40 in summer!
We work thru the snow and the ice.
