Muzzle brakes are legal in Canada , suppressors are not legal

Late to the party.
At this stage I cut out everything above 338 Win Mag based on recoil. I know from experience that my 8mm Rem Mag is as much recoil as I'm willing to tolerate without going to a heavier rifle that I don't really want to carry up and down mountains. That Big 8 is very comparable to the 338 Win Mag in recoil.

So that eliminates 33 Nosler (which I considered buying at one time), 340 Wthrby Mag, 30-378 Wthrby Mag, and 300 RUM from my list. I think the 300 RUM is borderline acceptable, but there are better 30-cal cartridge designs with less recoil still on the list.

7 mag is easy to shoot, great knockdown power long Range. Flat shooting. Ammo everywhere

I've done a lot of research and 6.5 PRC is the best, most efficient and accurate cartridge for both deer and elk, with regard to shootability and light recoil. And it has great long range capabilities too. There's always compromises & tradeoff's, and the 6.5 PRC It's nearly a perfect all around cartridge in terms of a great balance of everything.

Sorry for the late response on this, just saw this video for the first time. You have always been a favorite content provider of mine, but seriously, you can do better than wearing a shirt that says F.U. to our political opponent. Plenty of valid, productive ways to stand for what you believe without adopting that kind of statement your new standard. Or maybe I have read you wrong all along and that is how you speak as a father?

If you do not like recoil velocity and do not like pain. Try handloading using different powders with different burn rates they provide different types of felt recoil until you hand load you will never know how good the cartridge really is and or how bad it really is.

VERY useful information -- well, except for those of us who live in a nanny state, where citizens are protected from evil suppressors because once (perhaps) a gangster used one to kill another gangster.

I have hunted for almost 70 years and mostly used my old Rem 700 .30-06 (since 1978) for medium and large game. I had a Winchester Model 70 .338 Win Mag and it was a very good shooting gun. It did kick a bit, but I'm 6'2" and weigh over 210 pounds, so I didn't think it was all that bad, but I would kick out the .28 Nosler and above for a deer/elk gun..

Some problems with the recoil energy versus recoil velocity argument. I agree that velocity is probably a better overall measure than energy. But you said that we are to assume a 9 pound gun for all. If the mass is fixed then they are equivalent measures one calculable from the other and the mass being the same for all is irrelevant in comparison E = 1/2 m v^2. If you rank the rifles by E or v, you get the same ranking.

I have a muzzle brake on the 300WSM. Yes, it's loud, but significantly tames the recoil. It's always a compromise. Thankfully, I rarely have to shoot it as it's my last resort deer rifle, aka backup for the backup or when I need to shoot between 200-300 yards.

I'm recoil sensitive, so I stick to the bottom tier. I had a 30-06, but it was just a little too much. My wimpy little baby shoulder is much happier with a 308 + a limbsaver. I am intrigued by the idea of a suppressor on those "midtier" calibers, though.

270 WSM should have beat out the .270 Winchester and 6.8 western. .270 Winchester and 6.5 PRC shoot slower with less energy and more drop than a 270 WSM, using 143-145 gr ELDX at 400-500 yards, which is the realistic max range for most shooters. 270 WSM isn’t necessarily the best but it might be

I think that cans for bolt guns should be buy over the counter, the ATF or whoever they doing it to rob us of cash and nothing more because the reasoning for them interfering with the silencers is for the pistols and crimes "they say" but bolt rifles they will still be loud but I was shocked to see how much quieter it makes high powered rifles, I figured it would kill the bullet speed or accuracy well after looking into some cans it HELPS WITH ACCURACY and doesn't mess with speed at all so I am sold so I just have to pay the government robbers

Cross sectional area and bullet selection! Terminal energy! Handloaders have an edge! I really don't like someone else deciding that I need a full pressure loading for all hunting purposes! I have 30-06 equivalent loadings for the 300 RUM! If you need more, buy a bigger rifle! The 280 Remington will kinda do everything that the 280AI will. And going up and down Mountains is another consideration. Prices of rifles are also a consideration! I don't want stuff hanging on my muzzle when I'm hunting! I believe that it defeats the purposes of slim, light barrels! And these devices aren't cheap! Also, it can impact trees and brush while acquiring game or following them through a sight!

When you make videos comparing recoil, could you perhaps throw in the numbers for a pump action 12ga shooting 2 3/4" slugs? Just for comparison's sake. I imagine we all know what that feels like, and it helps me digest the numbers if I can say a little more recoil than 12ga slug or much less recoil or etc. Thanks

Please be careful. Marxists do not like silencers. And there is no such thing as a silencer anyhoo. They are "SUPPRESSORS". For anybody else the difference means nothing, but you have over 500K subscribers. Anything you say can and WILL be used against you and all the rest of us. We are discussing "SUPPRESSORS". Are we OK now? Thanks. :)

Great video and one I needed. I commonly hunt with a 308, however, I need to add a rifle capable of better long range ballistics capable of taking elk at 400 (500 yard max) rifle. The 6.8 Western fits what I’m looking for. Short action, heavier bullets, shootability, good BC, energy similar to a 7mm rem mag.

Sir... #1) They are Suppressors, not silencers, #2) Not Everyone in Every State can easily Get One, #3) Even if you Do they have to sit in NFA Tax Stamp Hell from the AFT for up to 1 full year, #4) I very much appreciate how incredibly informative you are, and clearly knowedgeable, but you subtle lack of inclusion for semi-autos surprises me, as those rifles often drastically outperform in the recoil department, and have barrels well under 22 inch in many calibers and cases.
