Having worked in HVAC as a service tech for 17+ years, there’s a reason hermetic compressors are still used for refrigeration. refrigeration racks have scroll compressors which work very well too. I haven’t seen these linear types, but if there’s many failing after 2 years then they’re not a good choice for a home refrigerator. The reason for this is in a commercial enviroment there’s tech who are normally looking at these devices on a scheduled preventive maintenance in most cases. At residences, this isn’t happening. It’s normally only when absolute failure happens is a tech looking at it. Personally, I think it comes down to corporations choosing the cheapest option to get the sale and thinking short term. This can for some insane reason increase profits temporarily and then those involved are gone. The issue is handed to someone else and rinse repeat. This would be abhorrent in critical refrigeration situations. Think hospital or bio chemicals. That said, i do know someone who has an option to be in this lawsuit or sign a non-disclosure and get a full refund.

Please don’t take this is as being against new or better technology.

TLDR: enshitification basically.

Just bought a nice a LG with drink knock peek feature and ghe salesman told me u wont need another fridge for another 50 years!

10 years is a great warranty, 6 years into it so far... If only the warranty would reimburse labor costs, or at least send you the part. I was declined by Frigidaire to provide me a warrantied compressor unless I paid one of their certified repair specialists to install it. We did pay to have it diagnosed by one of them. Frigidaire even tried to sell me some water filters after declining to provide me with a new part. They told me that regular replacements of the water filter would have prevented the compressor failure!! I replied "That would be like saying, changing my cars oil more often would prevent tire wear". She had no response. Then I proceeded to call LG. Their statement was "not our problem, call Frigidaire" I reminded her it had their name on it and I could provide her with serial numbers to confirm, answer was still no. Another support specialist with Frigidaire didn't want to deal with my simple request and transferred me to a different unrelated department. No help with this so far.
For those who want to know the main failure in these compressors is Freon leaking past the 3 electrical terminals they have sticking out of the side of the compressor. Sealing around these electrical connections seems to be an issue for a lot of manufactures. I have personally found 3 different compressors lately with this same issue. Seems like a case of typical shitty manufacturing that happens these days. Most companies are engineering products to last for a certain period of time so that repairs are required or you go buy another. Planned Obsolesces. If your still reading this rant of mine think about this. Its 2023 and engineers are smarter than ever with what they can design. How is it that everything is breaking faster than ever. Life is NOT good! LNG, really. With class action lawsuits having LG pay for your whole fridge under US lemon laws this design proved to be, let's just say, less competent. There are more parts if you count a dozen hefty springs. It's louder even with my replacement reworked compressor. Dead in 5 years as the high circuit suffers microfractors from vibration.
But the biggest problem is the lubrication.
Truly a third grader design. And in my case, four grand US down the drain.
Not to mention the annoyance of the early repairs.

LG low quality products in general they are learning from China but LG with the higher price keep it up LG and soon will run out clients and just in refrigerators this problem is with a lot of your products they where build to last for limited time so you can sell the new models so sad LG is not What it use to be 😭👎

It's not energy efficient, higher energy is used to activate the coils because of opposite force exerted by springs, can be seen on operational wattage requirements. Not really an inverter technology but a direct solenoid mechanism, not an inverter motor. They got a good idea to use solenoids but wrong method of using it. I have an Idea on how to maximize it, not on current approach they applied. They failed on both mechanical and electrical design.

all is good, but they only work for 2 years, at over $2000 can LG tell me where is the logic to this.
