Canon RF50mm F1.8 Real Life Test, The Perfect Budget Lens for Portraits

What do you think about the new RF50mm F1.8? And what was your first lens?

I've got a vintage Pentax 50mm f1.8 and a vintage Minolta 58mm f1.4 which are both great portrait lenses on my Fuji camera.

i am going to buy one 50mm prime, it is so small, I can put it into my pocket.

I changed my EF 50mm 1.8 for the RF, but I confess that I much prefer the bokeh of the EF, the RF seems to have a very grainy blur

It’s full idiotic to public video like this with comparison photo quality in video. Overall sharpness, contrast, chromatic aberration that’s the real difference between this two lenses.

What do you during the Before to After pictures to make them better

niiice... This question may have been posted already so forgive me, but are you shooting in Raw and your 'before' and 'after' relates to post raw processing? Also are you using all natural lighting or some fill? Thanks!

EF 50 1.8 ll bokeh is super cream! RF 50 1.8 bokeh is not fine. RF it is killer fine photo.

Do you mean after editing? What is the Program you are using for that?

Hi, I'm not profesional and have a omd em1 Olympus mark III and just for the sensor size difference I can tell the difference. My cheap zuiko 50mm 1.8 is fine but comparing to this ...... Not. I wouldn't know if I like more whether left or right maybe right but it should be the same photo (pose) and no edition to decide . Obviously for portrait the best use to be blurred backgrounds. The sharpness is awesome compare to mine anyway.

Great review. I might actually look into it. I got my R7 in Oct of 2022 and it is a game changer for sure. Love the speed and quality on my camera. So far, not to break the bank, I have been using all of my EF lenses which are great lenses that I have, with adaptor. The quality is sensational and huge improvement from DSLR model that I had. I have had my nifty fifty EF 50mm prime f1.8 and the price point was incredible on it, considering the quality I get with it. I love it and used it with the new camera with great result. Now I am curious and interested to try an RF lens, but so far haven't taken the financial plunge yet. I do love both pictures, and the one on the left is an amazing picture, plus I figure if we want to do any improvements there is always post processing, so overall, might look into RF type of lenses, but not at the current moment. Thanks for a wonderful review. Great to see a side by side comparison.

The f1.8 does a very good job , and there's no way I can justify spending all that extra money for a slightly faster lens .

The lens is sensational. You literally don't need the L series. I would only consider the f1.2 50mm if I was only ever doing portraits and was doing it for a living and still then I think the 1.8 is more than enough.
