I need to find a retro case and a low-power GPU as my power supply does not have the right pins for a gtx 980 4GB card, it actually looks great with no mustard cables just a blue motherboard paired with a fanless CPU cooler and black and white parts. I still have a Phenom II 4X 940. It was in a build I had. I had moved. The computer was in storage. When I wen to retrieve after we had settled in a place. It had fell. I was pissed! Lo and behold the unit wouldn't work. It was my fault. I placed it there. really wasn't expecting it to fall. I saved everything for one day when I get a new motherboard. I'll try it. Learned a great lesson that day. Secure and protect my shit better!

Bit late I know, but you should have turned this into an awesome early XP rig, with a soundblaster card for EAX, and played all those late 90's/early to mid 00's games. I have my old socket 939 4800+ machine for just this purpose (cannot believe it still runs). I had a CRT monitor for many years too, but that died, so I had to do what you have with the 4:3 LCD.

I was using the 3800+ for 15 years(upgraded just few days ago to phenom 8400 ) its ok ish cpu but i put more powerful gpu 7950 gt to replace 9400gt 512 mb so i needed cpu upgrade.
By the way i needed bios update to use phenom on my motherboard

I perviosly was using bios version 2.6 i upgraded to 3.0b and the phenom 8400 is working fine and that cpu has better thermals

I would run CRYSIS at 11hundred something by 768 at 50 FPS and with a newer monitor 1080p at 35 to 45 fps on high also. Company of heros 45 to 50
Age of impires would just run away if i had the game speed up ...IDK i built a newr system years later with a 6300 fx and a readeon hd 4870 black night addition and CRYSIS Would run 45 to 50 FPS on medium.....i just dont understand how the athlon was doing so well. I had an exact model of cpu in an attempt to built a retro pc but that athlon 6000+ (windsor) also. Did not perform as well as my 2008 Athlon.???????????????

No, it's not. :) Athlon from 2006 can't kick ass becouse it's Core 2 Duo year and begining of next era of CPUs performance. C2D have at least 40% more speed clock by clock and also 50% more OC ability from factor. Intel was close to 2 times faster in same year. In next year 2007 Intel introduce Quad core and slighty better OC, so it was 250% faster in only one year.
Athlon X2 s939 from 2005 was first true dual core processor for consumers and it's a true retro king and monument of revolution in performance.

Series 7 Geforce is really bad idea for 2008+ triple A gamesz so decide to use GTX8800 from 2006:
Skyrim runs on very high 25-30 FPS
GTA4 high 23-40FPS
Tomb Raider 30-50fps
COD4 30-40
COD MW same
Etc etc, every common AAA game was completely playable and stoped on Wither 2 about 15FPS only.

Im literally using the dell version of that monitor right now lol i needed a second monitor and it was free, it works great honestly. And if i want to run emulators 4:3 it looks right on the monitor lol. things that work fine makes it hard for me to upgrade just to upgrade

i almost have the same cpu, mine is an amd athlon 64 x2 5000+ with a gt 440 with 4gb ddr2, im happy that some really modern games run not on that many fps but it runs.

Is the Athlon better than the Sempron?🤔 Thanks I got a hold of a Dell 531 Inspiron. Turns out it has a Sempron LE series 2.2Ghz, 4GB 800 mhz RAM, 64-bit, running Win 8.1. Think it had an Athlon before. Was the 850W PSU a bit overkill?

instead of playing a lot of old games to see how this CPU holds up he plays a ton of new games at 10fps. what a waste. I have no idea why so many people do this

Nice video. Remembering that way back when these CPU cost AMD $100+ each (total R&D and manufacturing cost). Even now if you wanted to manufacture a new batch of AMD 64 X2 3800+, it would cost at least $30 per cpu (considering all the cost of fab time, man power, raw materials etc). Meanwhile these cpus can be had on ebay for few dollars at most.

These Athalon chips which also were related to Turion X2 were monsters for the time. My Dv7 which had a Turion X2 Ultra could go toe-to-toe with a Intel i5 8 years newer, and absolutely demolished our old Pentium D Extreme (a stupid expensive CPU and top of the line from the time) in pretty much everything.

i got a connundrum lol do i use the athlon 7750 for its l3 cache or do i use the athlon 6000 for its brute force? tough choice.

If you were to give it 4x2 gigs ram, it would perform better under proper dual channel configuration. But DDR2 is simply old and slow for modern games.
My Spare emergency gaming rig is an old Phenom II X4 955 clocked at 3570Mhz on a M3A78EM board with 4x2 Gigs DDR2-800
The same CPU runs on boards with DDR3 ram, and there is a significant performance gain to it, specially on modern titles.

It would probibly run better with a larger res monitor so you utilise the gfx card more. But othervise nice video great job :). I my self has a couple of maschines vith dual core athlons on both socket 939 and socket am2 they are awsome :)

No, some of us are into retro tech. What settings did you have these games on? Kind of hard to gauge how well it is truly doing if we don't even know what the settings are. Also, when you put that fan on top of the case, why did you put the lid back on? You realize that pretty much renders that fan useless, right?

Can I upgrade from windows XP to Windows 7 or 10 ?

Thanks for your effort to make this vid! I used to run almost the same specs for 6 years straight and it always served me well. I'm thinking of building a similiar system in the future to enjoy one more time how it was to run games and apps on this system.
