My husband and I also support children through World Vision. One year I just asked him to sign us up to sponsor another child. It made me so happy. We also have given gifts to World Vision in our family’s names. There is a catalogue where you can pick gifts from as little as $15 to $1000. It will fit most budgets. I find the older I get I don’t want or need anything so the gift of an experience or giving something to a charity makes me extremely happy.

One thing that I think is appreciated is looking after someone’s child/children for an evening so they can have some free time. Maybe they could go on a date with their significant other or to the movies. My husband and I never had much support that way except for my mom and stepdad. I didn’t like to take advantage of my mom too often but she was always happy to help. Some parents do t have family close so they might appreciate some help from friends they trust. If you want to be more generous you could pay for their movie as well.

One additional thought I wanted to add is to consider the persons love language ( quality time, touch, gifts, acts of service, words of affirmation ) when gifting. As an example my love language is quality time. I would appreciate tickets to an event that I attend with the giver, quarterly hikes at new places with the giver, buddy read a book & discuss, make candles together … For someone with acts of service as the love language one could give a car wax, detailing of their car, window cleaning …. For someone with touch as the love language gifting a throw blanket like the one you curl up in while reading on your video would be perfect, also the sheet set you mentioned … For someone with words of affirmation consider gifting a mug with words that describe the person, or handwritten note of appreciation that contain character qualities you’ve observed. For one with gifts as their love language is somewhat self explanatory. This was my mom’s love language. We use to gift her 12 days of Christmas that she could open at anytime during December. It was tiny wrapped ( which is key for this love language as they LOVE to unwrap their gifts ) favorite nuts, candy car, Christmas cocktail napkins, Christmas stamps along with box of cards, candle,flavored coffee … I find when I consider the recipients love language they feel seen & loved, which is my motivation is gifting. ❤Carol

I love the gift of time and experiences.... a coffee date, ladies night / day, tickets to a movie / concert / sporting event, zoo memberships are great family gifts.

I nailed it this year - Primaloft insulated snow pants and puffer jackets - delivered to a large homeless shelter. I did go a bit high (about $2300) but I got 20 pairs of Gen III Level 7 primaloft batting snow pants and 22 (mostly Calvin Klein - great quality) puffer jackets.

Thanks for the suggestions! Good ones : ) When intentional, even the shopping trip (to go out & get the candle or gift card, etc.) can be a great experience! We have a very quaint little downtown and the adventure is as fun as a gift~

Elin, go get a facial! 😊You will looooove it! My niece loves to bake, so I make her a recipe jar. This all the dry ingredients in a large mason jar with the recipe attached to the lid. She loves that! She’s at college, so it’s even better that she gets to bake at home during semester break!
