What do you think of Baku? An incredible place or a glamorous city built at the expense of its people? Would love to hear your thoughts 😊
By the way, I said ‘Legzins!’ 😁❤️

I just met a man from Baku who told me he is gay & people would watch him & see the same man coming from his apt. they would selectively saying things about the same person seeing him or at his place implying he is gay which he is! he said he didn't feel free there as a gay man. he said people seem to know everyone & watch U so U don't feel free to really B yourself.
This was his experience being from there &so he left & moved to LA. Ca.
he still has biz in Turkey but is so much happier here & said he feels free to B himself.
He did say it was so cheap to live there he could live a very affluent lifestyle while here in LA, he can't yet live the expensive type life style he live in Buku.
Save how inexpensive things R there compared to lA, Ca.
I could live like a Queen there with what little money I have, but like the guy from there I might not fit in being a rather off beat hippie non religious out-spoken woman.
It is a very interesting looking city, but if I can't B or feel free to B me,I wouldn't wish to live there either!
I don't care for suppression of my personal views, so maybe I would not fit in there very well with my liberal non-religious views.
Do love the Flame Towers, but that isn't enough for me to want to live in any city.
I think most important is feeling free to believe, act & think as U want & feel. I don't mean being hateful, judgmental or cruel to others, but just feel free enough to B your own unique self without feeling U R somehow wrong.
I think this chap I met from Baku felt he was a misfit & although he was living a life of luxury he had to leave to end his freedom of his heart & his mind.
He feels he has found it & will B able to reach the same level of lifestyle soon here in the USA. LA,Ca to B exact... To B clean not all cities in the USA R open & accepting of gay people or off beat artists like myself.
I get him & understand exactly how he felt there...

Beyond postcard veneer, Azerbaijan is a nation that sits somewhere between fake fact expert North Korea and genocidal Nazi Germany. All you need to do is just scratch the surface a little and it's all there, a short history of barely 100 years ruled by an autocratic family for most of this time can't cover up its dark reality. There is a reason it's almost exclusively UK citizens (well greased BP employees) that spread their propaganda from the outside. It's understandable Matt and Julia wants to avoid soiling the channel with uncomfortable facts, but at least they could do better than to parrot dictatorship's talking points; there are practically no Jewish and Armenian/Christian communities left.

I was in Baku last week and that's how I'd sum it up - is it all just a facade?
Large beautiful buildings everywhere, but they all seem empty. Some building are the same one after another. It felt like GTA in real life.

It looks like any muslim country that has a lot of oil resources. New modern buildings and bazaars. The city is clean but the architecture looks chaotic sometimes with a lot of concrete. The courtyards look quite bad. Azerbaijan is a dictatorship and maybe that’s why people don’t want to talk with foreigners. Let’s hope that they will not do any pogroms against armenians like they did in Baku in 1990.

I want to say great thanks, for your video (which I haven't even completed yet). Haha.

I’m not sure why but I’m surprised that the country is moving forward as it is and as usual there’s always a flip side of the coin, quite literally.
The promenade looks beautiful, flat and very modern.
I didn’t learn anything about these countries when I was at school.

Nice video but the information about the average salary is wrong....officially average salary in Baku is higher than 1000AZN which is more than 600USD, plus it's official numbers...in reality people also get additional income from the shade economy. FYI
