I just picked one up as an open box for about $400. Next I’ll get the Arturia 61 with the pro bundle for about $450. Basically getting the quality keybed and a second controller with all the drum pads and physical controls (if needed for triggering tracks and lighting cues), but also getting some great software and samples/patches (6k!). In total, I’m in for $100 less than an M88 MkII with all the same hardware capabilities, quality, and software, plus and extra 61-key keyboard. 🤓💰😎

The Arturia KeyLab 88 has the same keybed as the SL88 by studiologic, iirc.

Is MIDI synths and iPads only a church thing? Seriously, it’s all I see. I’m a little reluctant to use the pair for preforming.

Shame we don't have this in the Philippines. Personally , would you still prefer that over Arturia Keylab MK2 88 when it comes to keybed quality and weight?

Are you using an audio interface or going straight through the SL88?

The review was brought down many pegs with all of the cult references to "worship" and such. Can't we just stick to music instead of constant references to the religion with the highest number of child sex abuse cases worldwide? Religion is like animal porn, it's obviously not for everybody, and it certainly shouldn't be brought up around children. Disappointing lack of ethics.

I've had this keyboard for about a year. Overall, I'm pretty fond of it. The keys feel great and it's build like a tank. But I have to agree that the joysticks aren't perfect. They're pretty small, making it hard to get fine control. They also have a noticeable deadzone, which doesn't help either. Don't get me wrong-- it's a good keyboard. I just really wish it had the same wheels as the Hammer 88 (I've used M-Audio's wheels before and really like them).

If I connect the keyboard to the iPad, how am I going to connect headphones without having a latency?

Can the SL88 and the SL73 be connected directly to speakers? Without using a PC?

I don't understand what a keyboard review has do do with worship/church.

My first stick is not working on the mid learn on the Sunday keys app, any thoughts on what it could be ? I have a sl88 studio.

I have the 73 key version. How often does anyone use the bottom 8 and top 7 keys anyway?
I personally love the joysticks - the fact that there are 3 of them and not all are sprung to return to zero is much more useful than 2 wheels.

Thanks, nice and positive review!
Can the SL88 be used as a USB to MIDI interface with a computer? So, if I send MIDI from my laptop to the SL88, will MIDI go out through the MIDI out ports?

Are the keys on this keyboard graded too?
Also which one do you think has the best keys this or the Roland FP-10?

So in the SL88, if you are using the Sunday Sounds app on am IPad, is there a need for any of the onboard settings? In other words, you just leave it on the first option and not worry about any of the onbOrd sound options correct?

Are there any specific settings on the SL88 that should be set?

Finally, if you are using SS app on ipad, is there a need to have the nanocontrol 2 ?

You can’t find a keyboard as good/versatile and budget friendly as the SL73. I use it to travel internationally and it has been through hell and that thing is built like a tank. I’ve took my Nord stage 3 on several trips as well, and the SL73 is more reliable by a mile.

I've used a SL-990XP for years. Great feel. Only sustain and expression though, and only old school midi connections.

The yamaha p125 (88 keys) and p121 (76 keys) is also a great option, as it has an internal audio interface, just connect the ipad to the usb port and that's it, no need to connect to an external interface.

SL88 is awesome but I do have a little issue with not having the wheel. Love the clean design tho.
I prefer the Arturia KeyLab 88 MkII, it allows me to have the MainStage SK programmed to all those knobs and sliders AND when I use the iPad app, I have a scene setup for the iPad too in midi to match. This allows me both options and I find the Nano controller redundant in most cases. Plus free software for additional use and it’s White 😊 (seen too many reds on stage). Yes it’s extra $. That’s why I got it out of pocket.
The M-Audio 88 with extra sliders does peak my interest for volunteers.

When I had these thoughts which MIDI keyboard to choose, I read a lot of reviews complaining about the reliability of StudioLogic, that's why I've ended up buying the Roland A88Mk2. Yes, it is way more expensive, but it comes from a well known brand, that has the expertese of manufacturing keybeds. I'm very satisfied. I use it with MainStage and Keyscape. Thanks for the video.
