I have a question: How do you deal with bio waste in an apartment?

I have been looking into zero waste lifestyle, but I find that my main problem is bio waste. I live in an apartment, so no option to compost, and I have to carry my waste about 50 meters away from my apartment building to dispose of it. I am getting better about recycling, and finding foods with less packaging. BUT - those kitchen scraps are impossible to avoid entirely. 

The problem is, when you have as few of them as I do, even small trash bags takes longer to fill up. And that means the scraps stay for longer, developing foul smells in the kitchen. (or, you are forced to take out barely full bags of trash, or stop recycling) How do you combat this, when composting is not an option?
