#rabbitawarenessweek Day 5 - Forage Friday 🌿
The outdoors has an abundance of tasty wild plants for your rabbits to enjoy, not only does it help to get us humans outdoors, but you can get a selection of tasty treats that your rabbits will love for free!
On this week’s foraging trip I collected Hawthorn, Herb Robert, Willow, Cleavers, Willowherb, Birch, Dog Rose (Wild Rose) & Plantain.
I fed some of the fresh forage to the buns as soon as I got home (washed first) then dried out the rest on my drying net to last for another day.
A few things to remember when foraging:
🌿 Always check the laws on foraging & if you aren’t 100% sure on what a plant is, or if it’s safe, then do not pick. Always pick responsibly!
🌿 Plant apps can be unreliable, so please don’t rely on these when trying to identify plants.
🌿 Avoid foraging from the side of busy roads, next to paths that are likely to be used by dogs or anywhere that pesticides may have been used.
🌿 Some plants should be avoided if your rabbits are on any medication, so always speak with your vet first if you are unsure on any forage you need to avoid.
What’s your rabbits’ favourite plant?
