Hasbro needs to understand that dnd and forgotten realms are two seperate things. Related but seperate. They can absolutely monetize forgotten realms as a brand if they properly turn it into a brand by developing it, it will work. But dnd is beyond forgotten realms, people are using it as a starting point to create their own games and realms. You cannot monetize that. You need established characters and locations etc. All dnd has are established monsters (which are mostly taken out of mythology thus actually not belonging to them) and established classes (which are reflections of character concepts we see in fantasy, again not belonging to them). But on forgotten realms they have characters like Elminster or Drizzt, they could make Forgotten realms an established brand and turn it in to a universe like marvel cinematic universe with movies and tv shows, pc games etc. And once that is done it can be turned into a merchandise. But in order to do that they need to seperate it from dnd.

I've always been the DM as well and always bought all the books and such. I never minded either. 5E will be the last D&D I buy. I won't be buying the new stuff and no D&D Beyond subscription. Ugh. And I hate how the hobby has changed and gone the way of "The Woke".

I just want my old school D&D. I just want to adventure in the great iconic realms. As they say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. It’s a role playing game where people create their own story, or play premade campaigns, whatever your preference. How about just leave it alone and each individual decide their own story.

DnD is as recognizable as LotR. It's just harder to play. You have to schedule, socialize, learn the rulesets buy or craft all the accessories. They either have to come up with some way to make faster campaigns or focus on making the game easier to get into while still being DnD. Their issue is and always has been that the decision makers don't take input from enthusiasts. I don't even play the game and I could run the brand better.
