Every PCP manufacturer has a particular pellet or slug that shoots the best out a certain barrel . The 22 happens to be the caliber with the most variety in shape and diameter for the PCP . With equal speed to a 22 rim fire and same grain . Giving both the best ammo each can shoot should come down to the person behind the gun .

Since I got my spring powered 22 cal air rifle 36 years ago and a pcp 22 cal 5 years ago I haven't shot a single rimfire ,so Its already replaced the rimfire for me a log time ago .

You can get started in air gun shooting for as low as 300.00 for a pcp including a pump . You can buy 500 pellets for 7 dollars . Spend another 200.00 on a good scope and start shooting.

Start off at 10 yards and work your way out to 200 yards . With the right pellet or slug you can start grouping less than 2 inches at 200 yards , It just takes practice .

I don't shoot a lot these days but I average about a tin of 500 shots per month so thats 6,000 shots a year , for a grand total of 84 dollars in ammo . Now compare that to a 22 cal rimfire at 350.00 for 6,000 shots . The more you can shoot the better you get .

Interesting that you shoot whistle pigs, I like to shoot their smaller cousins the ground squirrel. One day many years ago I got 130 in one day. More recently my best was 47 with a box of 50 of 17HMR.

Simple answer, No... No same person is going to lug an air tank around. A piston powered Air rifle cannot match a .22

I’m glad airguns (my passion before firearms) are getting som serious attention but with good attention comes politicians hungry for lib points and will step on anyone for that recognition… that being said fx are so damn expensive and I’m pretty sure they don’t focus on power as much as they do an efficient and effective product …but with that comes a hefty price tag ….I’ve never even held an fx may pick one up used…

So I checked the FX website. It is beautiful, but not easy to actually find prices or buy one...unless I missed something.

Wish the video description gave info on the gun used. I'd say I'm impressed at the performance of the airgun in this video (FX Panthera), but since it appears to be in the $1700-2000 range, it's about what I'd expect when spending that much money!

I live in Italy so the cal 22-25-30 cal PCPs can be excellent in case of defense-survival

I have the older FX Royale 400, and that thing will hit a dime at 50yrds. It has taken over 200 ground squirrels with 18gr JSB diabolos, most between 50-133yrds. However, I have recently discovered the the FX 22gr slugs, and they are amazing.

16 cents per round is pretty expensive. Can buy 22lr for less than 1/2 of that
