Ah yes, HORSEFUCK VALLEY.

This is the only area I never finished of every souls game, fuck this place, it just wasn't worth it, I spend weeks here which felt like bashing my head against a brick wall.

For me farron swamp was much more annoying because unlike this area, in the swamp I had to activate go do stuff in it where as for this I just needed to run straight and occasionally run passed a horse

It is optional hidden area for enjoyers. Low skill haters are so funny, you cant feel fun in calm meditative area with funny horses and cats :)

Honestly the area isn't too bad. It's really timing and knowing when to run. If you time it right now horses will spawn. My problem with the area is the boss, it's literally a reskin and then a gank fight at the same time. My least favorite area is The Iron Passage. You only have two choices really, kill all the enemies until they stop spawning or run like hell and pray to the rng gods.

I usually don't summon players/NPCs when playing any From Soft games, but even after trying every dirty trick at my disposal, I couldn't get my level 200 sorcerer through this area solo. Traversing the snow with a small team almost makes the run up to the boss enjoyable? I'm not sure myself.

I'm kinda mad at myself for killing so many reindeers during my solo attempts though. Halfway through the team run they stopped appearing, and I was really taken aback.

Ah yes. Frigid Outskirts. Traversing a blizzard ridden tundra inhabited by the breed of reindeer Santa disowned while trying not to lose my sanity. It was quite the experience. It was also the very last bosses I beat in my original DS2 playthrough before moving on to NG+. I procrastinated the hell out of completing that area.

This section frustrated me so much that I almost said fuck it and gave up on completing it. My completionist mentality wouldn't let me rest if I didn't though. So I begrudgingly returned to that icebound hellscape to face my fate and the fearsome fury of those frigid frozen fuckers who ferociously felled me with their fervent use of firing fucking lightning bolts at my face every opportunity they got. Channeled Rusty for a moment there. 😂

I always thought horse fuck valley was cool. It's a large difficult zone that is on the very edge of the known Dark Soul's world.

This area definitely deserved a better final destination at the end of the wasteland.

A big castle or tower at the end with non-reskinned bosses would’ve made this area worth the run.

Me when finally making it to the boss:

"phew, finally made it. Now, where can I find that bonfire. After all that, there has to be one around here......right?"

People complain about no bonfire before the boss. But if there were one, this level would be mostly forgotten, so leaving it out makes it an essential part of its design. You remember it because there IS no bonfire, and how soul-crushingly disappointed you were realizing this fact before having to go through the level over and over again. I wouldnt call this "cruel" by the developers, so much as "bloating out the playtime to make it feel longer".

DS2 feels so scripted.

This area is absolutely phenomenal and has such a great feel. I think if it didnt have a boss or like an easier boss with a really cool weapon soul, this area may have been one of the most beloved in the game. Eh, at least they are willing to take risks. As it stands, I just summon and enjoy the cool snowy wasteland :3

This is one of the many reasons this is the weakest souls game.

I dont mind a hard area but when the entirety of the area is the run back for a boss fight its really annoying. If its a gank boss fight, well then its really just bad game design. I love DS2 but Fromsoft really let the hype of DS1 being good because it was hard go to their head on a few level designs. The Kirin, blizzard and the Boss fight cant all be cranked up to 11.

I would go through it over and over until they no longer spawned, then walk there without a care.

I've never had an issue with this place but Blighttown is my favorite DS1 area so I may just have some kind of un diagnosed cognitive issue.

It’s rightfully hated. It is a lazy, piss-poor design.

I finished the whole game without summons, even the gank trio in the caves, but I could not do this. Not the valley AND the cats right after. So I called the NPCs to help and finished it in one attempt.

I was half expecting Zulie to unmask the big cat "It was Saulden all along!"

I hate this area because the potential is so strong. A gigantic ruin in the middle of a snowstorm sounds like a cool level in any game, yet here it's put entirely to waste

This map was made with the intention of being tedious and unfair, imo this would have been a lot less hated if the ds2 hitboxes weren't so hit or miss

Honestly if they removed the horses or just had them in the ruins the area could be decent. The atmosphere of blindly wandering through a snowstorm trying to figure out where to go is cool enough.

I invaded this place for years seeking for Siners in my Eleum Loyce Armor and my trusty Blue flame , BLUE SENTINELS !
