Hanna Reitsch was an unrepentant Nazi till the day she died but she was also one of the best pilots in the world at that time, holding numerous flying records and even flying into Berlin in the final days of World War Two in an attempt to save Hitler, which was an outstanding flying feat.

If the Germans had gotten the 252 earlier then Whittle would have gotten all the money he needed with the RAF screaming at him for being slow.

Among all the inventions, I have always wondered why no one didn't come up with the simple idea of using
shields while assaulting beaches. Like at Normandy... Omaha etc. The men jumped off the boats and away they went, running up the beach all while they got mowed down by german machine guns.
Why didn't anyone think....."Hey, what if the boys try holding some kind of shield in front of them?"

A shield wouldn't help against mortar fire, but what really killed them were the machine gun fire from the pill boxes. Why didn't anyone come up with that idea? There must have been material light and string enough to withstand that kind of fire for a time. ?????????.

An awesome series of documentaries. I remember watching each week when first broadcast back in 1977. I bought the videos as soon as they came out (still have them) and watched several times over the years. Watched the full series of seven programmes again a couple of times here in FB. Brilliant

Hanna Reitsch should have done 20 years for war crimes. The crimes being : 1.) Being a Nazi 2.) Talking in a loud and annoying manner

Never seen Hanna Reitsch interviewed. Didn’t know she knew English. A great pilot- also a hard-core Nazi.
