Which Kobo is best for you? (Kobo Comparison)

Why spending $500 for this when you can buy cheaper iPad and read on it?

I have an ancient 8" Kobo (R) for 5 years or so. It still goes strong. The only issue is that MicroUSB port got flimisy and flickers while trying to connect to my PC. These crappy ports should be banned everywhere. They ruin everyting!

But the good thing is that my old trusty Kobo is that it does not have this rediculous side bottom which make the device hard to grip as you always should worry not to press them by accident. I find this a sad design trend added for no reason to the new generations. Mine is fast enough, ergonomic and snappy and a pleasure to use. I Still can download books from the browser when the bloody port does not work. A really neat piece of techonloy for its age. To be honest couldn't find anything better to replace.

If you want to use your local public library NONE OF THEM.

The most important advantage of Kobo over Kindle is FREEDOM. Kindle is basically tethered with a titanium cable to Amazon, whilst Kobo can support 15 different file formats, which means you can get a book from basically anywhere that isn't Amazon.

great review ! i just have a question : do they have a dictionnary with which you can click on words you don't understand and immediatly get the definition/translation ? it seems to be a great tool for when you wanna read in other languages than your mothertongue

could you please tell me whether Kobo has the same searching function as kindle. ?the advantage of Kindle is that after you search a word in the search bar, it will display the different forms of that vocabulary show in all your books , it can help me to locate the content which I don't know the exactly vocabulary. it's like a fuzzy search. It can also split up a phrase that appears in different sentences. thanks. !

Kindles are cheap copies of the vastly superior Kobo.
Kobos lack the pro-American media saturation coverage.

CONS:
-can't search/organize by file name.
-highlighting is clumsy.
-touch response a little clumsy but no biggie(though i have no kindle experience to compare)
PROS:
- nice clear display with good lighting flexibility.
-looks and feels great with a case(magnetic auto sleep when closed cover)+hand strap and kickstand.
-8GB is WAY more than I need. It could probably hold 2000+ epubs.
-good battery life, maybe 1-2 weeks for me.
-has a secret sketching app in the beta settings.
-has Overdrive/libby internally.
-no amazon ecosystem. Easy to sideload epubs.
-inspires a non reader like me to read more instead of getting pissed and depressed by internet comments sections 😂
-goes on sale for $89.99, regularly $119.99.

For my old eyes, 9-9.5 inch physical books are most preferred. I wish either Kindle or Kobo will release an e-reader in that size.

Thanks for your excellent review. I am in Canada and I remember when the Kindle first came out. I really wanted one but we couldn't get them, so Kobo was my go-to. When I bought the first Kobo many years ago, I couldn't figure out how to use it, and so I never did. Is it still usable at all? I don't really want to invest in a new one, so can I upgrade my model? I admit I still prefer print versions of books to eReaders but now I'm looking for my Kobo again because I have a few books I want to obtain from the States.

I love your channel. If you please I would like to see your take on the various Boox Er-Ink tablets as far as the reading part. I have the 2020 Boox Nova 2 and it is pretty good as an E-Reader albeit a little heavy.

I own the kobo glo hd which is the ancestor of the clara HD and I love it more than the clara, it's way more comfy... I don't know why they don't sell it anymore 😢
