Been shooting 270WSM for the last 8 years. BLR. It’s an absolute hammer.
ОтветитьWant another fun comparison, 6.5 swedish mauser to the newer 6.5 craze cartridges. Loaded to modern pressures in good rifles it easy beats the creedmore. Also the twist rate was 1 in about 7 3/4 inches and can stabilize 170 grain spitzers.
ОтветитьAint no money in makin old better marketing says newer better shinier gets the dough economics 101 it's suks but
ОтветитьI don't really get the video format complaining about new cartridge options, it's good to have more options and we're all big kids who can decide for ourselves what we want to shoot. I've had a 270 WSM and it's fine, but the 6.8 Western is set up how the WSM should have been, no downside to the faster twist and option for heavier bullets. Also, the drop really doesn't matter, it's constant and can be accounted for, wind is the killer in western hunting and the heavier high BC bullets have the advantage there. Heavier bullets also have an edge for larger game, I've killed an elk with 140gr .277 bullets, but if a 165gr or 175gr of the same construction had been available, I'd have gone that direction.
ОтветитьHey bud I'm thinking about buying a Bergara B-14 in 270 cal. Have you had luck Bergara or any suggestions.
ОтветитьThe best hunting rifle is the one you got or the one you can afford to train with. Everything else is gravy.
ОтветитьIncremental increases in performance but that's how things get better. Are there any other industries that just stop bringing out new products to sell to consumers? That's the game.
Ответитьi have that same rifle. the .270WSM is profoundly better than the old .270. one of my most favorite rifles. used it on black Friday to harvest a slammer Momtana Whitetail Buck.
Ответить@WHO_TEE_WHO I have the Browning A-Bolt Stalker in 7mm WSM. Its a sweet shooter and a good balanced gun. However, just a suggestion from my experience with the gun: forgo the rail and get some 2-piece scope mounts in either medium or high. I have shorts on mine now and have a hard time loading/removing ammo by hand. It ejects fine. But with the WSM loads, it is a tight fit getting your digits in there with the low scope mounts.
ОтветитьWhere all of the WSM cartridges really shines is hand loading. It’s pretty hard to beat and can save you money on powder. Especially compared to a magnum.
ОтветитьAs sweet as any hunter
Oh, Who-tee-Who blinded me with science
(Who-tee-Who blinded me with science)
Who-tee-Who blinded me with SCIENCE!! 😂
You are correct! There are only so many hunters. If you divide that number by more and more cartridges, then there are fewer boxes of ammo sold of each caliber. The price of ammo goes up because the slices of pie get smaller and smaller. (The production costs of smaller batches are higher per bullet.) Eventually, the ammo manufacturers must determine which cartridges are worthwhile to continue to produce and which calibers must be dropped. Then who is left holding rifles for which ammo is hard to find? It's getting ridiculous. Thanks Adam!
ОтветитьI'm 70 years old, weigh 160 lbs., and damaged my right shoulder in a motorcycle incident 50 years ago. Recoil is a factor. :)
ОтветитьGreat content as usual, I'll stick with the guns I own as I have tons of ammo....6.5 creed for longrange and comp, .308 & 300wm for hunting. As a new hunter I'll never take a shot longer than 350yds (unless the fridge/freezer are empty).
ОтветитьThanks for crunching the numbers. Awesome video, but this solidifies why we need the 6.8 western! It’s the perfect all around hunting round. It gives the .277 caliber something it’s never had before, heavy high BC bullets from 165g-175g!
I know your XPR was a lemon, but why didn’t you send it back to Winchester? I believe they have a 1 MOA guarantee. Didn’t you send back the ruger American go wild in 7prc when that was shooting bad? It ended up shooting one of your best groups after that. You should have given the 6.8 western the same respect.
Anyway, as you can tell I’m a fan of the 6.8 western. Lol. We need all of the support we can get. Love your videos and hope to get more 6.8 western content. The Browning x bolt 2 is one hell of a rifle! Get your hands on one of them!
No crap 270 WSM shoots flatter, you compared 130-140gr to the 165-175gr of the 6.8 Western go apples to apples
ОтветитьAwsome video i have a parker hale 270 and 308 , and i love them both, once i found what they like ,
ОтветитьI'm gonna catch heat for this but oh well. 😆 🤣....whoot u say the 270 is better then the 6.5 creedmoor, well yeah its faster which makes it flatter but let's give the 6.5 credit where credit is due. I've owned both cartridges and know alot of other people that do as well and I'll guarantee that the 6.5 cm is more inherently accurate and I'll put money on the fact that the 6.5 cm boolots will out penetrate the 270 boolots. I'm challenging you to make a video about that. Comparing similar grains and boolot construction. And use gel blocks not them big square brown sloppy block you use to show how they explode. I've watched a lot of your videos and most of your best groups are with a 6.5 cm. So do a.good penetration test again using similar boolot weights and same.boolot construction. Penetration kills better then velocity, energy and trajectory. It that were the case then a 22-250 would be better for deer hunting then a 308. 😆 🤣
ОтветитьAnother great vids Adam
ОтветитьThere are a lot of new (most likely younger) shooters who don’t own a .243, .264, .270, .308, 30-06, .300 Win Mag, etc. so these newer cartridges (6 CM, 6.5 CM, 6.5 PRC, 6.8 Western, 7 PRC, etc.) are appealing to them. Ammunition manufacturers can’t ignore these new customers! If you don’t own a rifle chambered in an old cartridge (or own a bunch of old ammo) then the prospect of buying a rifle in a new cartridge isn’t that crazy of an idea.
ОтветитьGet a 280 rem.mag
ОтветитьThe advantages over the 100+ year old 270win are measurable….but extremely rare would that “advantage” be the deal breaker in anyone’s hunt…” If I had only used my 270WSM instead of this lousy 270 win” …you would have missed with either cartridge…and hit with either one too.
Ответитьgreat no nonsense info
ОтветитьWho Dee for load the 6.8 with the same grain weight
ОтветитьI was looking at my buddies box of 3006 yesterday in left in the stand took a picture of it and was comparing it to the 6.5PRC cause he shoots 150 ballistic silvertips and they are shooting 2900 and I had him off the rip with 2960 on the eldx and starting comparing the energy and the 6.5 had a little better energy across the board had him a little over 100lbs or more every 100 yards. Which is nice seeing the smaller bullet hold up to the 30 Cals.
Ответить270 wsm been on my wish list for awhile. Guy at work was selling a T/C Venture a couple of weeks ago. Yes I did buy it especially for the price. Looking forward to playing with some reloading for it. And yes the biggest downfall of the 270 wsm is barrel twist. Good video
Ответить…and in other news, since we’re reinventing old cartridges, the 7 SAUM/ 7 WSM is better than the 7 PRC too.
ОтветитьJust stick with the 270 Winchester. Only thing that would change my mind is the 280AI
ОтветитьLol the 270 wsm is a 1500 yard kill a elk 1 shot period all the stupid guns out ate for stupid to buy stupid the 260 the 280 and 270 wsm are amazing period but stupid need to buy stupid to feed ego nothing more
Ответить.270 yup out shines it all. Haters are just gonna get butt hurt and hate some more. Why make worthless cartridges? Well simply put Corporates need a new line to pilfer the pockets of the uneducated.
ОтветитьThe 270 wsm beats the old 270 for velocity . And in a shorter action. Iv owned both and the 270 wsm was also consistently more accurate and easy to tune over multiple rifles
ОтветитьGun mfg companies are mostly selling rifles to people who already own rifles. So, they have to come up with something “different” from time to time.
ОтветитьYou’re not comparing the bullet weights come on it’s like black-and-white right here. Look at the weight to 6.8 western as then the 270 WSM then two 7270 has the lightest bullets ballistically it can’t touch the 270 WSM I’ve shot to WWSM since it came out. I’ve shot mule deer with it at 700 yards. I’ve shot white out with it at 500 yards, I would take to 270 WSM over to 270 any day a week compare the fax bullet weight the bullet weight.
ОтветитьKinda of a very simple comparison that misses lots of information. Wind drift and penetration is where you will see the difference in these cartridges.
The only advantage the 270 Winchester has is being more popular.
Do you gain much by upgrading a 270 win to a 6.8 western? No, but you do gain performance advantages to chose a 6.8 western over a 270 when buying a new rifle.
I'm old enough to see many, I mean many new cartridges come and go so investing into a gun that uses one you need to invest into how to make the brass and reload them yourself or you'll end up with a gun you can't use!
ОтветитьThe 6.8 looks good on paper, but it's very hard to get brass. If you buy factory ammo to get barrel break in and up to speed, you're stuck with using Winchester brass.
ОтветитьPrefer the 6.8 western because I have a weird fascination with the off beat caliber.. even tho I know it's a 27 cal the fact it's called 6.8 hooks me
ОтветитьInternet out a hurtin on ethical hunting.. people want to try what they see someone else do. Or have vanity/bragging claim so
ОтветитьI like your channel hoot but we don't need a lot of things in this country but we have a lot and that's just your opinion, my opinion is your just fishing for content.
ОтветитьIve got that in 7mm. For the life of me I cannot get it to group. I've tried at least a half dozen brands/grains with poor results.
Ответить270 wsm is one I have been interested in for years but I have never acquired one.
ОтветитьIf you look at what really counts for hunting, not sitting in a tree stand, out here in the west where we actually have big game the 6.8 is a logical choice! Most hunters really don't care what's needed for whitetails out of a tree stand because it has no equivalent in hunting, it's a chip shot! Out west we shoot big game in open country at reasonable ranges and obviously 6.8 W has advantages! Yes it doesn't make sense for you guys that sit in a tree all day but people that hunt will probably like it!
Ответитьnew and old cartridges both have good things going for them.
ОтветитьLove tge title
ОтветитьLots of plastic
Ответить6.5x55
Ответить6.5x55 and no plastic
ОтветитьI have a 6.8 western in a browning, and its far beyond my favorite cartridge at the moment. Of course theres a million similar cartridges that perform almost the same, but there's just something about it. Ive shot elk, muleys, and whitetail with it and its done the job with ease. For me the magnum performance with absolute minimal recoil makes it my best cartridge to shoot. Its incredibly accurate and has the ability to hit at those long ranges if needed. For me, it checks every box. I hope it gets the support to grow.
Ответить6.8 short action with a little less recoil then the wsm. Other wise yes it's bullets weigh more so will drop more
ОтветитьOnly see 270 win ammo on the shelf
Ответить
