I fell behind on a few Marvel movies. By the time I checked I was like 3 shows and few more movies behind. It just felt like work catching up. There’s definitely too much content

If it isn't superhero films it's lord of the rings
Why is everything so family-friendly these days?
Aren't films being made for grownups anymore?

I'm really happy to hear somebody else zone this issue in on spectacle films in general. There are plenty of great films with great stories that people don't give a chance to because those viewers are desensitized by modern popcorn films and only care about visual appeal.

Disney is like a factory that mass produces nostalgia to milk childhood memories of all their joy until theres nothing left.. I was obsessed with Star Wars when I was a kid, now.... not so much. Same with Marval.

More or less everything they both have said is true; however, at the end of the day none of it is anything new and watershedding. They were basically just listing all the good old "dos" and "don'ts"; now the 'real' question is whether Gunn will manage to abide by it or whether the studio will let him do so.

P.S. - My personal opinion is that the break between DCEU and DCU should be longer; like four years instead of only two. I'd push back the upcoming Superman flick all the way to 2027 or something like that. BUT the Warners want MONEY, of course, .... and as quickly as possible. 😞

The trick is to make each movie theme as unique as possible regardless of being superhero movie or not. However..... there is also a great appreciation for restoring classic comic books to be as accurate as possible as well. There isn't much room for political messages.

100% agree. A Quiet Place was my second favorite film of 2018 because you rooted for the family to overcome their past tragedy on the other hand A Quiet Place Day One is one of the worst films of the year because the characters are so bland and Sam (who I couldn't remember her name until the credits) is already dealing with a terminal illness with no family around there's no consequences if she would die.

I hope the new Superman theme music is good. Hans Zimmer theme for Man of steel was great.

I think Marvel and DC become burdened by huge Crossover Event Story Arcs. These have always been a problem even with the comics. I mean, the Crossover Event itself is a great money maker both in the Comics and Cinema, but it overpowers the character arc stories and of course they get bumped around while they setup the next big Villain threat.
The villains have been painfully generic or get killed off before they can become more interesting.
The OP characters like Thor and Hulk keep getting Nerfed. These superhero flicks need to figure out how to accept OP characters because, power isn't everything sometimes there's a mystery to solve and super strength doesn't give an edge.
These are long established characters you know will continue on, so they kind of have 'Plot Armor'. I did like though that Thor lost an eye, but dammit they undid it.

There are more Rom Coms and low budget horror films than Superhero films every year. The issue isn't oversaturation, it's too many of them are mediocre or bad. The MCU, minus a few productions, is on a down turn since Endgame. The DCEU overall was a mess. Just stop putting out shitty products and it'll be fine.

Deadpool and Wolverine just topped a Billion dollars. People will still come if the product is good.

I am tired of pro feminism and lgbtq movies. Women are allowed to have the things they like but anything men like has to be feminized nowadays. Cant have sci fi or hero movie without a female lead nowadays. And everything that was great in the past is being remade just to recast the leads as a female and erase all trace of masculinity. If hollywood was concerned with making a good movie as much as they are pushing "the message" films would be great. But they are not....and so the films are not.

Yes yes 1000%. Two of my favorite superhero movies: the original Superman was a love story with superheroes; and Winter Soldier was a political thriller with superheroes. New Mutants almost nailed it as s horror story with superheroes, but it could have been scarier, and the Big Monster at the end was weirdly tacked on (even though it was in fact a character from X-Men lore).

Gunn understands how to make a good film with a focus on characters and their individual story arcs. Producers for WB past simply through galactic level villains forges a good hero (Green Lantern jumping the gun and making Parallax the origin story villain was a strategic mistake) . Spider-Man has been the shining example of how a common street thug or mentally challenged madman can put a character through the reigning in a way that audiences can relate to

You can’t really count the Snyder films as full blown superhero films. They are more in the class of amazing moving digital wallpaper. Haha

The example I use is Black Widow. A great character who people really wanted to see in her own movie. Her movie intro was set up for a full dark spy thriller.

The movie was a generic Marvel schmoz with the usual 'banter humour', focus on the Red Guardian being a fool, random gender swapping of a character just because, and also negating the villains as a collection of bland boring tropes who don't really amount to anything.

Oh and let's do a hundred bait end credits that actually really don't matter (does anybody remember Yelena is in Hawkeye? Nope? Good.).

Black Widow is a contender for worst Marvel movie for me not because of the two main actresses (Scarlet and Florence are awesome), but because the writing is so bland, generic, inappropriate comedy to tickle the brains of people who just shovel content, and a general lack of effort.

If they had put effort into it making it a super slick and Dark spy thriller, spending money on practical effects and had hired a director known for thrillers - a Michael Mann type person, can you imagine how the movie would have turned out WITH the good will of the fans who wanted to see Scarlett in her own movie?

Marvel instead went 'let's watch the Red Guardian struggle to fit in his uniform and make Taskmaster a woman because reasons.'

Even horror had been fatigued in the late 80's and Rom-Coms in the late 2000's. I love superhero movies and I this can happen to all genre. 😊 We need filmmakers that really care about characters and know how to make a great story surrounding them like how The Dark Knight Trilogy was made. 😊❤

It’s not that there really “too many superhero films”, it’s too much of the same type of story. It should embrace genres and basically make films that have superheroes in them.
