I mean what did she expect? she killed all those man... (I know it's a metaphor/allegory for something else but still) she bathes in the blood of her victims.

This is what good directing and execution is. How well the scene is portrayed, the way her pain and suffering was portrayed, it made the audience feel heartbroken for her despite the fact that she's a bloodthirsty, vicious predator like an alligator or a shark. You'd still feel empathy just because of how much emotional pain she was in as we humans have a natural inclination to sympathize with another that's in pain.

So effing beautiful. The moment the silent warrior falls down among the many fellow warriors rips my heart.
This is something I'm going to be showing to my kids, and I'm not yet even married.

I think this is a great metaphor for colonialism. The locals were brought low by those invading their lands for their own greed. They thought they had silenced the locals for good but with social media nowadays the people brought low still have a voice and the invaders now have to face the consequences for their actions.

I could be wrong but I feel like this episode was a metephore for a toxic relationship.

I love the many meanings of this short. Being honest, I really disliked the series overall, only watched it because I mostly liked the animation, but this? ... This. This, man, was THE reason why I was happy I didnt drop the series.
All the meanings aside, I just... cant believe how real her anguish is portrayed. The pain, disbelief, anguish over lost glory... finally calm after the emotions are gone and the deed is done.
How the first scream is just... irritation! She's not trying to sing, only let her emotion go... then turns around and tries her magic, tries her dance... the gold lost, the charm gone, she just screams. Finding closure in the fact at least her voice still works.

I dont see how shes the victim in any capacity. She seduced and killed his whole group, only sparing him because she didnt realize he was deaf. Id say wounding her and taming her treasure is letting her off easy.

I think about this scene and the siren’s screams a lot. I’m talking like once or twice a week bc the way she screams and wails and grieves is so real and familiar. She moved and screamed like the way I want to but cant being myself to vocalize. I really love this episode. It even struck a cord with my mom bc she recognized the siren as well

I couldn’t help but laugh when she keeps trying to dance like “if I just buss it down sexual style ONE MO TYME, ID GETTEM”

The animation is top notch and so effectively captures her pain, anguish, and heartbreak. What an amazing piece of work!

when the deaf soldier drown it was just so heartbreaking to see her poor face. It's like she wasted all of her 100% strong voice on 1 soldier

Feel bad for them both, but moreso for the knight

He was just a foot soldier, maybe he went into the army with his friends, he was just a man, a commoner, and then, when he and his brothers in arms arrive at the lake, all he does is be human and pick up a golden scale in the water, marvelling at it, he then, like any regular person, pockets it.

Which prompts the siren to just jump out and start her screaming, killing ALL of his brothers in arms, the men he likely knew for years, and there he is left in the mud and blood, a shell shocked mess, everyone is dead, and the siren then tries to kill him again, and he runs for his fucking life trough those woods, in his eyes, he is audio crippled and a goddamn gold plated devil is chasing him trough the woodland.

And when he finally collapses from exhaustion she tries to be all cute and snuggle up next to him, like she didn't just kill all of his buddies and then try to kill him.

And when he wakes up he literally sees what he might aswell see as THE DEVIL HIMSELF laying next to him, and then she sprints off! Leaving him scared, confused and with a golden scale stabbed into his palm.

So then he realizes what mkst people would, that he can't hear her song, but that he could take those jewles to sort of atone for the brutal deaths of his compatriots, so he finds her and plays along with the whole love thing.

She is not a woman or a gentle soul in his eyes she is a fucking banshee who wanted him dead not 10 hours ago, he cannot love her and he does not because she literally tried to get him to drown or be hacked apart by his own comapnions, what he does is what someone seething with resentment and anger would do after being left all alone in the woods with a murderous gold plated banshee.

This episode is the rose tinted perspective of the "victim", if we got an episode trough the eyes of the knight, it would be a fucking horror movie.

Can you see what i'm getting at?

So...there was a happy ending?

I always wondered what would have happened to her after the end. Would she have slowly started gathering her gold and jewels back? Did she die? Did she ever recover?
