Charles Martinet is retiring from the legendary role of voicing Mario. Glad I got to see him at Too Many Games 2023 before he signed off
ОтветитьFor some reason, watching this made me feel kinda sad. I should be happy that the creators of all my favorite stuff have gone on to do things that suit their experience better (at least if they're not in jail), yet I'm having a hard time accepting that.
Ответитьkono douga sakurai kara mitatoki, darega omoeba hitoridesu. Shinichi Shimomura-san wa dou genkisurunoka? Ichiban shiritaidesukedo, kotae wa tabun ierarenaindesu.
ОтветитьReminds me of Shouzou Kaga, creator of the fire emblem series. he technically retired around 2005 I think but still made 2 passion projects in 2019 and 2022, and even hired people to translate the game. But he stated many times that his goal wasn't to make profit, the price of the game was simply to cover the costs. He stated that he retired from the game industry and this was just an indie game for fun.
Still, I do wish we got to know what some of those people end up doing. When you see their works on something like wikipedia and there's 7 or 8 years with nothing, I really can't help but wonder what they were doing during that time. Not saying they can't take it easy at one point in their life, they definitely can, but I'm still curious and wish we had some ways of entering contact with them. Some creators retired before the internet got big where they were lots of interviews and stuff, and it's so sad because it means I can't know anything about the people who made my favorite pieces of media. It's the case for the writer of fire emblem path of radiance and radiant dawn. He wrote for 3 fire emblem games total, assisted with tales of vesperia and that's it. We know nothing about who he is, no one in any interview at nintendo ever mentioned or referenced him ever. Heck, he's credited with a pseudonym in path of radiance and radiant dawn, not his actual name. I really wish I could learn more about him, learn how he created my favourite story in fiction, how he came up with ideas, what he had to cut, what he wish he had done better, etc. He's probably the person I want to meet the most in the whole world if I'm being honest, hahaha.
Mr Sakurai is not only teaching about creating games, he’s also teaching good lessons to live our life. I find that inspirational, noble and useful. 🌟
Ответитьcan't wait for Sakurai to detail the upcoming Smash 6, although I would not begrudge him if he didn't choose that path! I wish he didn't announce he was ending this channel, like instead he could try and balance both and like detail when they'll be droughts/breaks due to smash 6 taking up all his time or whatever it may be.
ОтветитьIt's true that it's normal to change our path, but I rarely see older people coming to video games. Most people leave games to earn more and crunch less.
ОтветитьThis hits differently after hearing Matpat is leaving.
ОтветитьOh you do😯 well whatever makes you happy I'm all for it👍
Good luck On your next project whatever it might be.👋
Honestly wasn't expecting this, based on the title alone. I thought the topic would be about how the visions of creators change to produce games that differ radically from the "contract" of their earlier work, which sometimes produce games that the creator feels are an evolution for their craft, but don't resonate well with the players.
Ответитьty for this kind reminder <3
Ответитьthis is fine and all, but as a creator it is your JOB to not disrespect and shut out whole chunks of your fanbase. If you disrespect established parts of your franchise and say your previous work is worthless, you get a shitpile known as tears of the kingdom, where it's just like all the other generic copy paste shit that's forgotten immediately after playing it.
ОтветитьMaybe he's working on a new Kid Icarus game for Switch
ОтветитьI'm excited to see your next game!
Ответить👍!
ОтветитьSometimes your current career is what gives you the confidence and the drive to follow another one.
ОтветитьAs a huge JRPG fanboy, this video makes me think about Hironobu Sakaguchi. I've been hoping for so long that he would make a comeback in the larger gaming industry, but seeing how both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are still stuck on Xbox consoles, I needed to accept the fact that Sakaguchi isn't making a comeback any time soon.
ОтветитьYep, dont think im going to be working in retail forever. Hopefully theirs something better.
ОтветитьHe said he's creating games and showed smash Bros. Is this hidden confirmation?
ОтветитьI have a lot of things I want to do in my life, in a variety of fields. If I had the money, I'd be running off to do unrelated things every few years.
Ответитьhappy holidays Sakurai-san
ОтветитьDeep stuff
ОтветитьI'm just here to see the different ways Masuhiro Sakurai says "Grab Bag"..
ОтветитьHe should have been the final character for smash! 🎉
ОтветитьIS HE WORKING ON A NEW SMASH GAME?!
ОтветитьInafune?
ОтветитьMr Sakurai you're amazing and you're right!! Creators do change and finds more purpose and that's amazing!
ОтветитьBro just confirmed smash bros 6 at the end of
ОтветитьThis is where we realize at the end of the day game development is a job not just a dream
Ответитьi feel like the internet is obligated to see this video
ОтветитьThis is such an important thing to keep in mind with creators; it's okay if they want to move on to other things, no matter if they were previously game developers. Nice wisdom as always!
ОтветитьSuch a wholesome video and a timely reminder that creators are people too. This channel and Mr Sakurai are a treasure.👍🏾
ОтветитьGreat information. Also, it’s great to hear that you’re STILL creating games in future😄👍
ОтветитьJohn Carmack come to mind. From 3D gaming, VR and AI. He just insanely good.
ОтветитьInspiring advice!
ОтветитьI believe my calling in life is to convey deep ideas to masses of people, to show them how incredible their minds can be if treated and used well. I can do that through my art, and my art is game development.
But God, it is difficult and soul-sucking to keep up with this for so long. I want to live my life, yet I'm struggling to get by. I just hope I can hit it big on the indie market.
When I entered the field of computer programming in the United States back in the 90s, I had quite a few colleagues over 50. The average age of programmers has come down quite a bit. Most of them move on to something else or retire early, if they don't move up to something like a technical architect. Let's be honest, most companies prefer for programmers over 50 to move on to make way for younger programmers that they can pay less.
Ответитьstill making games huh? wonder what they could be. more beetle games most likely😆
Ответитьwe love you Daddy Sakurai
ОтветитьIt's important to allow any creator to move on to something else if they aren't feeling fulfilled creating the things you enjoy. But I also feel, that if you are in the public eye and have built a community of people who care for and respect you, there are good and bad ways of making this transition. Without naming any names, disappearing off the face of the Earth without a word is just disrespectful to your fans. At least have the courtesy to say goodbye.
ОтветитьSakurai needs to become a university professor teaching students how to create games for the future.
ОтветитьDon't forget to hit that like button
ОтветитьYou know Sakurai if you ever want to go back to a franchise, I would suggest remaking or making more Chibi Robo games
ОтветитьImagine if there was another F-Zero game where you can fight instead of just racing? Everybody knows that Captain Falcon is a bounty hunter, he should fight crime and use falcon punch for the first time in the F-Zero series. Walking and running in an open world in the F-Zero series is a great idea instead of racing. Racing is still a thing to do. Hopefully a game like that may come to the series someday. 12/26/2023
ОтветитьJapanese are very into the idea of Artisan that you have to spent your whole life to hone in one skill.
Big companies expect their employees to enter after graduation and never leave until retirement.
People with "diverse" resume are a no-no to certain kind of jobs.
great wisdom, thanks sakurai!
