And the only thing that was changed was that the pitch was lowered so as to not be as grating on the ears. I distinctly remember being able to teach Pikachu Surf in Yellow and the sprite that appeared on the game while on the water was Pikachu on a surfboard. I very much remember that being real. If anyone tells me I'm wrong then I call BS on that Mandela effect shit.

I remember the Splash rumor. I remember being told it was the most powerful move in the game and if you just spammed it enough it would one hit KO anything.
I spent forEVER spamming splash and a ton of full heals to see it.

Omg I never knew that the thing with celebi and the shrine actually started out as a rumor, and they just went with it and added it to the game afterwards

Don't forget about rumors about Ocean Blue, Grass Green, Lightning Yellow/Thunder Yellow, Volcano Red when the GBA games were in production!

I feel so cheated! Before Diamond and Pearl came out, the OFFICIAL NINTENDO MAGAZINE(!) of the UK said the ‘saying gotcha before catching a Pokémon “trick”’. For literal years playing the game I’ve been saying it out load, thinking it would put the odds into my favour, only to be told in this video RIGHT NOW that it was all just a rumour 😭😭

The rumors for Gold and Silver Pokemon is what I remember that most, it was a very exciting time to be a fan of this series because we all didn't know how Game Freak was gonna shake up the formula of the games, it seem like the sky was the limit.

When I was a kid I got Pokemon Yellow. My older brother (who had Pokemon Red) said that if you name an Oddish "Oddity" it'll turn into a Ditto. I thought I remembered it happening, but I looked around on the internet and there's nothing about it anywhere. Probably what happened is that my brother used his GameShark to turn my Oddish into Ditto.

My brother and I also believed the thing about tapping the A button after throwing a pokeball and holding B while the pokeball shakes would increase the chance of successfully catching the pokemon. I learned later that it was fake, but to this day I still do it out of habit.

I still tap A to this day out of habit 😅

Why would the lava cookie be a hint to Mew? Just because it's close to the truck? I think it's more of an easter egg in Let's Go Pikachu where you actually find an item under the truck.

When I was a kid I tried to steal an elite four pokemon while holding down a,b,start, select. It just restarted the game.

People will belive almost anything just another reason to do your own research. I remember even trying to say Gotcha when catching a pokemon in pearl version. And yes I like palkia. I thought the pinkish color was cool and everyone else seemed to like dialga. That's why I went with pearl someone had to and im glad I did.

i will never forget running around at recess with my pokemon cards hidden in my socks from the teachers and making secret trades in the bathroom. there was also a lot of kids at first who refused to believe the MissingNo rumor until this kid Brendon showed up with about 50 masterballs lol

The "Gotcha" thing wasnt a rumon , its in the actual manual for the games , like in the in game one and in tneh guide Nintendo released , both state it

I hate myself for believing the truck rumour and trying it for hours... spread by the annoying liar kid who wouldnt even play the game and convince you by being overly agressive about it. When I think about it he would lie about everything or maybe he just believed the bs he said 🤔 I freaking hate that kid 🤔

Funny how pokemon unite actually became a thing

its funny in hindsight how a good portion of this stuff ended up happening in a way. like pokemon unite actually coming into existence as an online multiplayer pokemon game but as a moba rather than an mmo. pokegods evolving from starters or other pokemon? mega evolutions and g-max. fire type pikachu form? the δ pokemon cards in the tcg, regional variants and terastal seems like it will be capable of giving pikachu a fire type

We had a rumored ghost pokemon when I was a kid. Called Spooky. Due to cheats though I actually saw it and pikablu. Spooky i believe was just the ghost sprite of marowak if i remember correctly. pikablu was legit however sprite and all lol.

yeah but like, mashing A definitely helps catch the pokemon, they just dont want us to know that. I think we can all agree on this

Regarding the "Bill's secret garden in the back" rumor, could Mr. Backlot's garden in the Sinnoh games be a nod to that? Especially with the rare Pokemon the butler claims don't exist.

I remember Cybermycha, Polish video game magazine from back in the day rumored that once you had completed the pokedex you would need to talk to prof. Oak 100 times and he would give you the Mew

Me and the boys use to do the missino glitch all the time that was our new, also heard a rumour you could find mew in the trash can in the giant mansion but it was false also buuuut our boy had mew so he knew something he never told us.

I got into Pokémon late into gen 3, and I wasn’t allowed to use the internet as a kid, so I heard my fair share of word-of-mouth Gen 3/4 rumors. One rumor I heard was that there was a Pokémon called Shaymin (which obviously was true, but I hadn’t heard of it) and it could be found by completing certain conditions at the Old Chateau.

Another rumor was that if you used the walkthrough walls cheat code using an action replay and ran out of bounds north of Snowpoint City, you’d eventually reach a secret city where the trainers had level 100 Pokémon. I actually believed that one, and I spent a long time holding up on my DS to no avail.

There was a very commonly believed rumour amongst my friends growing up that all legendary Pokemon had a move called "Legendary Blast", I don't know who started it or where it came from, but everyone just went with it and didn't question it or try to debunk it. I was disappointed when I started playing the games a few years after my friends (funnily, I beat the games before they did as I figured out how to get the strength HM, haha) and none of the legendary Pokemon that I caught could learn the move "Legendary Blast".

There was also another similar rumour that Goldeen had a move called "Chromium Energy", again, no clue where it came from, and it wasn't as common as legendary blast, but people still used it. It's funny how these rumours come about.
