My Dad LOVED Harry Belafonte‼ He owned some of his vinyl records. I managed to snag some of his collection and passed some onto my youngest who respected vinyl. But only I loved Harry. He had a great voice. My Dad was also anti-racist from a young age which was not respected in his community or his family or his workplace even when we moved to California in the late 60s/early 70s.

After hearing this song , it is not perfect but peace...

When I listened to this I thought of the movie Beetlejuice😅

This performance always makes me cry. We tend to think of it as a joyful party song (due in part to memories of Beetlejuice, where so many of us first heard it as children), but when you really watch./listen, you remember that this is a song about LABOR. No wonder it resonated so powerfully with working class folks back in the 1950s. Everybody could relate to wanting to go home.
