Americans are allowed to do what their self-imposed overlords choose to let them do; & prevented from doing/having anything those people see fit to tell them "NO" on. A toddler isn't "free" to have a cookie because its mother decides to let it have one today when she could just as well take that "right" away from it whenever she sees fit. You are not "free" to drive across the country while restricted under threat of having money snatched away from you or your "right" to drive at all revoked if you choose to move along a little faster than the signage posted along your route tells you you can. And you are not "free" to exercise your "right" to vote or to choose in a system that uses the tyranny of the majority to install certain officials who will then force you all into line. In real freedom, there are no "rights" at all. That isn't even a notion. The fascinating thing is how a population of beings who need & pathologically crave to be protected, saved, coddled, cuddled, & above all else controlled on a constant basis to the extent that they will hand that power over them to just whichever asshole they find the least threatening to their own little social enclave in any given election cycle, can cling to such an obsessive tendency toward crowing aloud about all of their "rights" & how "free" they all want to think they are. Be as collectively wretched, broken, & co-dependent as you like & as you all are. Your heroes in the armed forces have fought for hundreds of years to preserve that for you; it would dishonor them to move against it, as well as taking away one more thing you all can stomp around & feel good about yourselves for being thankful for. Just, whatever you do, stop calling it freedom or yourselves a free people. There is no longer any such thing, hasn't been for a long, long, long time. True greatness of any nation is defined by her values and her mission.
