As an Australian who travels there a lot , I find it a safe place but there are things you need to be aware of. The people are friendly and happy

Over charges in Cambodia on everything for tourists like us had just recently happened nearly all the time within the last one week. !However, 6 weeks ago member of our group left designers sun glasses inside a small backpack during kho tou island near Samui in Thailand and we thought just to give it a try without any high expectations at the boat pier we used = we got it returned on the next day.
Out of the whole 9 weeks in Southeast Asia this 2023 trip which we haven’t been back since Covid but one thing still remained the same in Cambodia and Lao is that local people looked at tourists as piggy bank which they should as much as possible tried opening it without leaving any damage evident of thefts.
Vietnamese and the tourists part of Indonesia definitely had improved especially with the cleanliness on their environment surrounding - the rubbish tipping sights which used to be everywhere are now less visible.
Take care when going to Myanmar or don’t go there just yet because even in the capital of Yangoong we weren’t allowed to be out after 7/8pm unless you are into a dare devil kinda trip with a very good holiday insurance that is bulletproof for any unimaginable….well just used your imagination in this case.
Skipped Singapore and Malay as well as Brunei until next time and went straight back to Thailand where all of us are very content with especially on the safety regard in general. And as usual there is loads to and see as well as amazing friendly locals.
The more visits we made the more impressive the standard of the Thai had become. Transportation, emergency medical treatment is very much on par with any developed country out there in Thailand at the minute and may actually be better because it’s so easily accessible.
As for the food especially with the new Thai-Japanese culinary intervention that anyone can afford without sweeping tear ritually got us addicted. Talking about amazing services and marvelous accommodations that will stays in your heart then just go to Thailand particularly if you are looking for a good holiday that doesn’t cost you a life or that of having to work for the next ten years for a chance of experiencing all luxury 5* traveling memoir.

Best advice “ just go to Thailand “!😊

As someone who has travelled across Europe and Asia .. without a doubt most Western European cities are unsafe .. cities like Bologna , Paris , Barcelona are absolutely not safe ... especially the railway stations .. Bangkok, PP, ho Chị minh are way safer .. most troubles in SEA are caused by smug foreigners thinking they are rich and they own the place .. The truth is most westerners are backpackers and literally are poor but entitled.. you can see them begging for money in Bangkok ..

Well, as a Cambodian what I can say is just that - like what they mentioned in the video, use our common sense. If you go to a cheap massage parlor, you might be scammed, but if you go to a nice proper one, this is lesslikely happen. Same when you go around in the city and waving your bag and stuff you might get them snatched too. Because there are still tiny percentage of rotten Cambodian as well. Generally and unbiasedly, Phnom Penh is safe.

Go to Thailand better

You have to have no street sense to get in trouble in Cambodia...

I got robbed on the first day of my trip by a group of men on the main street of Phnom Penh, fortunately I left most valuable at the hotel. I told the hotel staff and they didn't pay much attention at all, didn't even ask if I'm ok or not. Bad experience for me😮‍💨

its not safe at all,i just robbed by motorbike ganster near my hostel area（night market near river）,i lost all my docs including phone passport id ,all my bank cards etc,its so bad for me,i hope tourist dont put cambodia in safety destination list please，cuz its most easy to get motorobbery city in this world.its no matter you are strong man or not,they can capture the opportunity quickly，robbed it suddenly then run away by motorbike soon，you cant catch them only by your foot.its been industry here long years,cuz before i heard such thing ,but no changes.

I was robbed at the river it's extremely dangerous they came up on me and stole my phone. My friends room was broken into and passport, phone and money was taken at Golden Home Hotel on 172 Street

I stayed 1,5 months in Cambodia in early 2020, and mostly Phnom Penh and had more trubbel in Norway than in Cambodia. Felt very safe, most dangerous is stray dogs and annoying was greedy tuk tuk drivers.

(1) if you are a tourist, just be a tourist and don't get involve with politic. (2) show some respect to the nation culture and religion. (3) do not abuse the country rule of law. In another word just enjoy your vacation and go home safely to your family.

Curtis doesn’t have a clue. Lived in Cambodia for 4 years. Never once had any issues. No theft. No trouble. No danger. Cambodia people are some of the nicest people I have ever come across but treat them with respect and they will do the same. If you’re out and about being “yobbish”, shouting, thinking you can do what you like.. then there is trouble.

I'm American and live in Phnom Penh now. It's safer than the American city I come from. The only thing to worry about really is bag snatchers when you're on the TukTuk.

As the topic about “Trouble”, don’t expect about good comments. How ever, criminals, pick pocket happen all around the world. But, nearly 40 years, I’ve never heard about GTA, big robbery, never had bank robbery, no gun murder, no terrorism. It might not be the safest place, but I do fell safer more and more all around the country. I’ve been to few countries, I see and feel not safe like Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Malaysia. I felt safer in Singapore, Korea & Japan. And I thought US was the safest country in the world.

Scams, thieves, and robberies happen everywhere in the world including Western countries like, Europe and America, South America, and Central America, North America etc. just use your common sense every where you go. Cambodia got the stereotype because the country is poorer than other countries. But to be fair, the legal scams in the western countries are much bigger than a paddy theft in Cambodia. The bigger legal scams in western countries like health care scams, financial scams, mortgage scams, and taxes scams, wall street scams, and bank scams as well. If you invest in stocks, put money in the banks etc, you may lose all your money if those institutions collapse. Health care system that prohibit any cure, mortgage system that take make interest from you and by the time you paid off your mortgage, you will have to pay double the price of your house. If you buy the 2x4 piece of wood, you get only 1.5x3.5. But those scams are ok, in the west.

Scambodia is the place of scammers and thieves. Please beware.
