13? Really? I was babysitting other kids when I was 13. Of course, this was back in the 80's. I was also home alone with my younger brother from the time I was about 8 or 9. We were what were called "latchkey kids." Your parents left early for work, and you finished getting ready and got on the bus. After school you came home, let yourself in, locked the door, called the parents to let them know you were home, and hung out for an hour or two until they got home. But this was normal back then. A LOT of parents did it. 8 and 9 back in 1982 was a LOT more mature than 8 or 9 today. I've seen an abundance of 8 and 9 year olds who can't get ready and get on the bus WITH their parents standing over them. They never would've survived in our life. I'm not saying we were alone for DAYS on end. Maybe 2-3 hours total between the morning and the afternoon. I'm in NO way condoning that in today's world. There is WAY more available to kids, and the chances of them getting snatched or blowing up the house is significantly higher than it was when we were that age.

OMG thank you! LOL. I thought I was the only person who thought that Home Alone was just Die Hard Disney Style. The whole time I'm watching this, I'm thinking...I've seen this before...where have I seen this before....oh yeah, this is Die Hard....kind of....

I would argue the fact that his traps were not lethal is evidence that his intention was not to stop the burglary but rather to inflict as much pain and suffering, both physical and psychological, as he possibly could. This is also supported by his taunting of them. He's an 8 year old psychopath playing vigilante.

Wasn't there a character in "Home Alone 2" that raped a woman, engaged in fraudulent business practices, paid off newspapers to hide the fact that he cheated on his pregnant wife with a porn star, incited violence against the government in an effort to overturn a fair election, and kept top-secret documents in his basement to be sold later to the highest bidder? It seems to me that at least one of those things is illegal, but maybe I'm wrong.

Home Alone had sequels, each revolving around a different kid and family.

In one of them, a kid found a missile guidance chip in their RC car.

That being said, just google it. If anyone is wondering, no you cannot set up booby trap for your house, it is illegal, and the sentence is not light.

Kevin would get off but the fact that he conceptualized and implemented a dozen deadly traps would put him under serious psychiatric scrutiny. That's the pathology of a future serial killer.

I would have also included on what he pulled on the Pizza Delivery Guy also a Minor Theft as he Took The Money Back just after Paying for it and Scaring the Halls and Jollies Out of the very same Pizza Delivery Guy.

Why didn't he called the Police after all shouldn't thought that his Life Was In Danger? And Plus it was easy for him to think that he had just been threaten, in the literal "Get Out Of hare or I'll kill" kind of way.

Has a kid I thought they didn’t have phones and than I remember, “but there was a phone earlier?!” How do they not have friends or family nearby? What about the cops? They could have called at least someone who can stay with Kevin till they make it back.

The biggest plot-hole in this movie is that an 8-year-old who woke up and discovered that their family was gone would run to the neighbours and have them call someone who could get in touch with his parents when they landed. He would be put in proper custody until the parents managed to return home.

Then again, there would be no movie if this particular 8-year-old did what any 8-year-old would do.

Objection: Kevin retreats to a tree arguably within the curtilage of his home, and thus the Castle Law is still applicable. The tree is in their front yard, if I remember correctly.

When i grew up in the 90s in Maryland we could be legally left home alone starting age 8, not age 13. But you had to be at least 13 i think, to be legally allowed to watch (babysit) a child younger than 8, including a sibling.

Objection: Calls for Speculations. Parents left child home alone under unusual circumstance (changing of a bedroom while extended family is in town, a snow storm that knocked the power out, and the miscounting of children by another trusted family adult) We cannot prove the parents left him home out of malice, nor can we prove negligence due to the trusted family adult getting full count, I think that a good defense lawyer could produce enough reasonable doubt, and I think that they would have been acquitted in this flick. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, the judge would have thrown the book at them lol

Kevin has retreated from the physical building of his house, but he is still inside A building on the property that constitutes his home. I've no idea where the law stands on that. Does it still qualify as a justification if he is on the property of his home, but not inside the building?
