I had same problem (forget device) so I tried everything and one thing finally work - Ii pulled out AirPods from case till orange blinked - then I try to connect AirPods to ipad (cause it was impossible with iPhone) and it finally connect. ps Sorry for my English )

To everyone who clicked forget device on AirPods and they aren’t reconnecting. You need to be on the latest software update and then charge your AirPods for a 1 or 2 hours and it will work.

If you have another Apple device like an iPad, try connect the AirPods to that. I found it wasn’t connecting to my phone. So I did that and it synced through icloud so it paired with my phone again. Weird af

Trying to reconnect them it flashes amber, then goes green and off. instead of a flashing white.

Reset your network settings in the settings app, fixed mine.
