If you decide you want to go to college, you should know exactly what you are there for. If not, it is a complete waste of time. Unfortunately the idea that college is the only way to progress in life was stamped into my brain by my parents, peers, and teachers. There are plenty ways to make money besides college, you can start a business, go to trade school, military, etc. If you do decide you want to college, get a degree in a field that will get you a well paying job that you can tolerate. Do your research. I will warn you though, don't think you can just start a business and instantly become rich. It will hard and you will have to make a lot of sacrifices without potentially seeing any progress for weeks, months, or years. I believe in you guys 🙏

I personally told some of my friends that I was going to college two years ago. But I didn’t go because I didn’t want to fall into perpetual debt. Along side, I’m not necessarily a very social person and although college is known for its social environment, I still think nothing would of changed.

What about those people who let’s say ARE a self improved individual but they are a let’s say VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER, and player/teenagers of their game are making him money. Would that make him a bad person?

I think everyone should be able to choose their own path, I want to go to college because I've always loved the idea of being a scientist and invent stuff, I love science and I know I can make tons of money as a mechatronics engineer. That being said it's not the right choice for everyone, some people wanna do music, art, entrepreneurship, etc... I definitely won't go down the rat race and just work for a big corporation without building anything for myself, just because I wanna go to college does not mean I don't wanna build my career myself from the ground up just like you did. Going to college does not mean getting a dead end job and working till you die it just gives you a chance to learn in a more structured and thorough way.

If everyone takes the "business" path, the society will crash.
I live in a country where there are no specialists in lenses, nuclear or even thermal energy, 'cause people choose to be resellers and business founders, which is an absolute pain for people who are ought to hire other people. A factory worker has less influence on society, but more influence on the future and progress than a blogger, business founder or influencer.
Only a few companies have changed the world, the other are just.... here and now.
Do you want to leave nothing behind, or do you want to be at least a small part of history? The one, who made a detail for a big rocket, who designed an airport, who made a car for a race champion, etc.
Plus, there is no business when there is no working class. More founders, more competitors, less people you can hire.

I agree that your advices might help for some but as a person who have a goal related to studies, not getting to college is a big loss to me.
Stopping education from young age is not alwaysbthe best option for some, as they have different goals. I get this for people with fitness, sports or other professions in mind but for people who wants to be like doctors, engineers etc uhmm... Yeahh...
So what i would say is to recognise your goal and work onto it nad decode whether you NEED to go to college or not, because college helps.

This might sound scummy, but start selling to your audience smth like a course or community.

Don't do it every video. Instead, do it every now and then. Mention it when it's appropriate for the conversation.

Thank You Maxwell for making this video, as someone who went through the whole rigmarole complex process of taking the ACT, going to study prep, getting good grades in school, and then going to college for 4 years and graduating, I wish someone made a video like this when I was in high school. College itself is not the problem, we do need college for people who want to pursuit certain field that does require college or some sort of formal education. The problem is society still push this outdated agenda like everybody needs to go to college. Also there are so many junk majors in college like art history because college is just another business. They want to bring in as many student as possible so they can make as much money as possible. Simple as that, they have their own best interest, not yours and it doesn't help everyone around me pushed college as the only option after high school.

Here's a small tip from me. I was always worried about my grades. I wanted to get the best score on every exam. A few weeks ago it hit me. I asked myself "Why do i need to be good at history if I want to be a cosmetologist?" I'm not saying that you should stop studying every other subject. My point is that we all have different talents and we don't need to be good at everything to live a good life; "And now that you don't need to be perfect, you can be good"

Bro I just love your content so much. I love every videos of yours that I have watched. I'm currently at Uni, I got straight A's, an average of 95% in all of my courses, with 2 congratulation letters from Uni for my grades. But grades aren't everything. I feel like I'm a rat in a rat race. I still lacks of tons of skills, I've been struggling to deal with worries, believes, anxiety and overthinking.
My goal is to get an internship, and I'm trying my best to bring my knowledge into practice, but it's not easy. I still feel directionless a lot of times. Eventually, I realize that I was trying toget good grades because since I was a kid, my dad had always wanted me to have good grades or else he would be angry. Also, he wanted me to play with the kids with high grades and always judged my friends based on their grades. Frankly, he makes me feel like a failure whenever I have bad grades.
But I've been working on this, and now I am feeling much better.^^

Where I'm from the idea of college is forced upon you from a very young age. Everyone I knew had a tutor since 3rd grade and had their dream school already picked out. School clubs were never about community, they were always about padding one's resume with club leadership positions and participation. I even had teammates on my high school lacrosse team tell me that they were only playing because they wanted another thing to put on their college application. Every year my old high school sends a big handful of kids off to the top universities in the country and hundreds of others to top UC schools. Going to college isn't encouraged, it's basically required. The class requirements to graduate are the same requirements to qualify for admission to the UC system. I don't blame my peers for going to college, not at all. In fact I don't have too many harsh opinions about college itself. However, I am disappointed in how everyone is hurded into the college path. I believe that more options need to be presented to kids throughout their life to show them that there're more ways to live your life than the traditional one. Thank you for making this video.
