The shop location that in 1990 hosted the first McDonald’s restaurant in Russia reopened June 12, 2022, with a new name and logo after a Russian owner bought all 850 of the US fast-food giant’s franchises in the country. McDonald’s suspended operations in March in the wake of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, then announced on May 16 that it would leave Russia altogether. Three days later, Russian businessman Alexander Govor bought the operation and said he would continue to employ former McDonald’s employees as he made plans to rebrand and reopen 200 of the outlets by the end of June and the others by the end of the summer.
