BTW, ZUN has joined hands with CAVE to release a killer SHMUP on smartphones -- Touhou Gensou Eclipse. It's been 2 months. And it still rules.
ОтветитьNot only was this a wonderful mini documentary, but a passionate recollection of shooters and their roots. This was a beautiful video
ОтветитьWOW!
Awesome video. Thanks for creating this. I lived those times. I've played those titles.

shooting game never die! 😊
ОтветитьShmup Junkie, you’re one of the BEST shooter enthusiasts that I’ve ever seen! And that Zak Vortex track took me back to the 80’s. We need a Ray’s Arcade Chronology review from you soon! Rayforce and Raystorm are my favorite Shooters ever.
ОтветитьBrilliant, just brilliant video
ОтветитьSharing your video. You described it perfectly. This video brought a tear to my eye. As if you pulled a piece of my childhood heart onto the screen.
ОтветитьI love your channel a lot, thank you for your videos
Ответитьit's a 20-minute video and it takes you 10 minutes to get to the fucking games fuck off
ОтветитьWhat a love letter to the genre, as is every video you make.
ОтветитьThis is gonna be a long shot, but what’s the one where your special ability absorbed all enemies bullets on screen and shot them back?
ОтветитьYou sum it all up so well. I felt the same. Couldn't say it better.
ОтветитьThis video is a masterpiece, you got it dude ! Congrats
ОтветитьThank you, looks the business 👌 just subscribed, right up my street this, used to love whip rush, quality game!
Ответить2D shooters is the term i use.
I don't like "shmups" term, it seems to be clumsy.
Great vid! But I think you missed the main reason for the dimishing popularity of shmups in the late 90s: with home consoles getting farther and farther from the arcade experience, people started prefering longer games for home consoles. The PS1 and PS2 eras valued game length A LOT. Which is why it was prime time for RPGs, and longer, more cinematic games like Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, survival horrors. Shmups are shorter games by nature.
Ответитьyou need some unreal engine developers and a team ...if you make a team I want a spot
ОтветитьGod that voice is annoying
ОтветитьHave you tried Change Air Blade on MAME?
Ответитьcomputer games are shooters
ОтветитьGonna be a weird furry gramps still loving and sucking at shmups.
But a very happy one.
I am with you
ОтветитьNo offense to your name, but I never understood why people stopped saying shooter and started saying shmup. I just don't like that word
ОтветитьGreat vid, some glorious games...in my area of the UK we called them scrolling shoot em ups from the mid to late 8o's , I think I first heard the term shmups in the 90's. I don't ever remember ever just calling them a shooter.
ОтветитьGreat compilation 👌and review. Some great games. The only thing missing would be the amazing 8 bit and 16 bit shooters on the home micros like the C64 and Amiga. Probably not well known outside of Europe but Armalyte, Enforcer, Katakis, probably all make it into the top 5 list of 8-bit schmups.
ОтветитьProject sylpheed is the epiphany of space shooters in my opinion.
ОтветитьTrue all that 😁All the new games are such a disappointment, but those games never die.
ОтветитьI cant wait for the all snes shumps review
Ответитьpulstar is just fun
ОтветитьIm more or less into every genre,so tell me do u guys like xevious?
ОтветитьThanks for making this AMAZING video!!!
ОтветитьThe first time I came across the term SHMUP was in the Zzap 64 issue 3 (I think) review of Dropzone, and because I have dyslexia I read it as SHUMP and for years thought SHUMP was short for shoot em up
ОтветитьThe popularity of shmups was dwindling in the mid to late 90’s? Did not know that. Explains why they catch a pretty penny on the market these days, most of them, not all of them thankfully. But if you ask me, most STGs from arcades that were released in the late 90’s and beyond are pretty much perfect (just a shame they weren’t as popular as they are now because the renaissance happened in the 2020’s and I took notice of that) as I say for modern fighting games. I also beg of more J-Fighters of the 2D variety to be released on 9th gen consoles.
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьToilet Kids...an early 90's console game with projectile dookie and flying weiners...
Calling Angry Video Game Nerd...come in Angry Video Game Nerd...this is not a drill...this is an emergency...
I'm looking for a shooter game (not first person) that is not well known but I remember playing as a child (80s-90s). All I remember is was mostly gray and walking through doors killing stuff. It was gory. Something that comes to mind are words like maximum overkill. I'm sorry for not remembering much. I can't find it!
ОтветитьDamn that was a God Level nostalgia trip! Awesome video!!!
ОтветитьI prefer 2D shooter and FPS. I hate saying Schmup. It might look good on paper but it’s an ugly word.
ОтветитьAbsolutely Great video 👍
Ответить🙂👍🇧🇷
ОтветитьThat intro hit me hard bro! What a time to truly be alive
ОтветитьGreat anthology. Congrats from Brazil 🇧🇷 my friend.
ОтветитьMy Top-3 shmups of all-time are Blazing Lazers (TG-16), R-Type (TG-16), and Thunder Force II (Genesis)...there may be many others that might be better but those are my "go-to's."
ОтветитьI introduced my wife to shooters and she currently loves playing Dodonpachi, Raiden, Cyvern and several others. She gets excited when we can play a new one, thanks for making this great video!
ОтветитьAs a c64 kid I'm pretty sure we called them shoot 'em ups to go along with beat 'em ups and jump'n'runs. Shooter would be something like a run and gun or lightgun shooter back then
ОтветитьYou forgot one step in between Big Trouble in Little China and Life Force. You had to Kung Fu your brother for a bit. THEN play video games. :D Could never watch that movie without a few matches afterward.
