Schwalbe MTB Tire Guide: Which is Right for You?

In Germany Maxxis is very rare. At least where I come from, we dont have mountains. Most common are Schwalbe and Continental. But Schwalbe is by far the most common tire and tube. When you buy a bike that had branded tires mounted, they will almost certainly be Schwalbe. For most other bike parts and tools we have Fischer.
By far the most common Schwalbe MTB tire in Ger: The Smart Sam. I have been riding them since a was a child. Almost continuous line of center nobs for low rolling resistance and then nobs becoming higher and thicker to the side. Perfect for people who want to ride on and offroad.

I have a pair of Thunder Burt 29ers 2.35 Front and rear and I Chose Schwalbe cause Germany have Leopard Tank. Also cause Schwalbe website has a ton of information and guides.

Of course, Schwealbe Black Jack, cheap, no breakthrough for a few years, they managed on any terrain, even in winter, what more could you want?

Other Schwalbe models that I know:
Tough Tom, Rapid Rob, Jimmy Watts, Eddy Current, Big Betty, Racing Ray, Wicked Will, Rock Razor, Dirty Dan, Al Mighty, Jumbo Jim, Hurricane, Smart Sam(most popular).
Best combination is probably Magic Mary front, Big Betty rear.

How long can I keep the tires unused? Does it lose quality over time if not used?

Running NN 2.35 front and 2.25 rear on my 100mm hardtail in normally wet Lancashire. Quite a bit of difference between the 2.35 and 2.25 especially in the outer tread which is a lot more squeezy & grippy. Looking at doing some xc endurance events 2022 and will try the Racing Ralph 2.25 on the rear. May Try the Hans 2.25 rear in Summer for trails.

This is a bunch of rubbish ! Every pro cyclist knows that the best off road tires are pure slicks.
Who needs grip in corners ! You just drift like cars do and then pedal heavily when the back wheel breaks out. All you need is a 125 mm crank so you don't hit the ground in the corners while pedaling.

I ordered magic mary 29 x2.4 front and nobby nic 29x2.4 rear for my full sus enduro felt 29er. Gonna replace the old conti Xking 29x2.4

What are some disadvantages (besides speed) of the Magic Mary for trail riding? I just purchased a 2021 Vitus Mythique VR 29er, and it comes with Magic Mary up front, Hans Dampf in the rear. Didn't realize this was more of a downhill tire.

I was thinking to myself: finally a decent XC thread patterned tire that's not 40 EUR.

Boy was I wrong... even a 5 bucks would be Robbery for a tire like that. It was supposed to have K-guard but it can't stand its own weight (less than 800 gr.) before being pierce by my test needle. The sidewalls crease like paper thin at 0.6mm.

That tire is dangerous! And so I won't even get to try a better SCHWALBE tire, I will buy a tire from a reputable manufacturer, not from a company that's selling an XC threaded tire that shreds to pieces just looking at it! That is deceitful and dangerous.

I'm interested in the Eddy Current tire, is it better than the bontrager theam issue se5 ?

Schwalbes commuter tires are what aaaaaaall communter type bikes has been sold with in Sweden for the last ten years. I havent tried their Mountain bike tires but I will soon.

Hi I just curious about dirty dan vs black jack which one better for commuter bike?

Just got the new edition of the nobby nic. Seems like a better tread pattern for sideways traction not that i put too much stress on it as only riding casual trails.

I’m an XC guy and Schwalbe is my brand of choice. Racing Ralph in the rear and Rocket Ron in the front. Works great in most conditions. Low rolling resistance and good traction when cornering.

Hi, GREAT VIDEO! I'm just replacing my tyres and was 'advised' to run Hans Dampf 2.35 front and Nobby Nic 2.25 rear, which is what I've bought. However, now I'm finding that most people run the Hans Dampf on the rear (note to self: research first, buy second!). I know that most tend to run a slightly wider tyre on the front. I also know there's no "hard'n'fast" rule but what advice would you give? My riding style is trial mostly (dry/damp conditions, hard packed/loose over hard, first fire roads). Thanks!

I've ridden Maxxis forever. They fucking suck. I've been so stoked on Schwalbe tires, glad I made the switch. Magic up front, Nobby in the back. The Dampf is going to be the next tire I try.
