I personally use a custom Windows called Windows 8.1 Sasnet for my Dell Inspiron N5050. It runs fast on potatoes and it still supported enough to fulfill what I do.

windows 8.1 was my favorite os from childhood.
even though I didn't have a PC, I liked it.
especially that if you had windows 8.1 in 2014 u get to have all of those apps preloaded like sports, news, and money etc.
and u get to have metro apps with desktop apps and it's good if u had a touchscreen
but if u use metro apps today, they are out of support (same as windows 8.1)

Windows xp, 7 and 10 are overrated while vista and 8.1 are underappreciated. Xp had issues initially but got better after updates and people judge it by its final version but vista always gets judged by its initial buggier version. Windows 7 is basically a vista service pack. 8 series is incredibly fast and compatible. A friend of mine installed it on a pentium 3 laptop for skype and it chugged along fine.
