Coming from someone who has been around trucks and heavy equipment for over 60 years, this truck would not pass a DOT check and should not be driven on any public roads. I have converted dozens of Deuces and 5 tons from 6x6 to 4x4 and the rear springs on this probably came from a 1 ton military trailer. They are not strong enough or safe to be used on this rig. AXLE TWIST WILL occur. JUST MY TWO CENTS. I
also spent 4 years in the Marine Corps in Motor Transport and I know these trucks and others well. Semper Fi. 1967-1971.

I run some off road trucks with air set up, one thing I changed is that I started out with female air connections off my truck but switched to male end on the truck that way it won’t rust closed like the female couples does.

Its not a 5 ton anymore, its a 2.5 ton. Its "bobbed" (neutered) which greatly reduces ground pressure distribution, load distribution, and traction.

You can lift a truck tire upright without air in it, but you won’t be able to when it is fully aired up. I don’t know the weight difference, but pressurized air weighs quite a bit

I was pleased to see you with hearing protection when you removed the nuts from the split rim. Later, with angle grinder and air tool not so much. Always hearing protection. Foam ear plugs, covers, maybe both. You're a young man and it only takes a moment. I'm 60 and I hear everything. A lifetime of being mindful.

Can believe you just trust the jack to hold it up. At least you should put a stand under just in case for next time you do it. Even if it is a quick change over

Split rims can kill you, and are no joke.
Most people replace them with super singles on solid rims.

Way less chance of killing you when youre working on them.

Unloaded these trucks will happily run on a flat or completely blown out tire.

What size socket are the nuts?

I have lug nuts that require 450 to 500 foot pounds of torque. I use a 6 foot cheater pipe to remove and install them, I can get 480 foot pounds when I put all my weight on the end of it

When it was castrated (an axle removed) it's ability to be considered a 5-ton was also lost.

id look into biodiesel using used oil and a bit of diesel you can run them for alot cheaper

FYI a full fuel tank is leaving a air gap. Diesel will expand on a hot day it’s cold coming out of the ground then expanding as it warms up! I would leave the fuel about 4” below the cap. Try to always park with a good amount of fuel (full) to help with condensation. Thumbs up 👍

CO2 tank for offroad. Much more pressure than you should need.
